I have seen a couple of old ironblock v8 944s for sale....

but we're not likely to see many LSx swaps being recycled, which was just the point of my crass, rhetorical question.

an owner gets in a situation with having a dead engine,

he can pick up an aluminum block and be back up running in no time.

you also won't see many as the owner just recently spent a lot of money converting it....and there are prob what 100-150 total swapped in the US? Compared to 14k turbos imported in varying states of condition.

Here you go, my setup is quite tame. I keep two mufflers, the Magnaflow and a SLP Loudmouth, the SLP Loudmouth is a resonator and is very aggressive.

The used LSx parts market is huge! My LS1 was out of an '04 GTO with 58k miles on it, cost me around $3800 shipped as a complete dropout with all accessories. I sold every single part i didnt need off of that motor; this includes alternator, a/c compressor, used crank damper, PCM, engine harness, power steering lines and pump, oil pan, fuel rails, injectors, old oil pump and even the old water pump with 58k miles on it... yes a used water pump! Oh and i even sold the used serpentine belt tensioner for $10 after shipping haha! LS1Tech is great.. huge forum with lots of traffic for selling parts.

I ended up only paying around $2500 for the complete engine once i sold all the accessories which i was replacing anyhow.

There have been a few well done swaps for sale recently; one was posted on RL located in NJ a year or so ago that looked quite nice and another 944Hybrid member just posted his up a few weeks back. Truthfully ive considered putting up mine for sale also; the 'project' has basically come to an end. Id love to get something new, the car puts a smile on my face everytime i drive it but ive grown a little bored of the 944 in genreal, over 10 years owning one will probably do that... been looking at the '15 BRZ, an LSx swap would be awesome in one of those...

They sound like my old '57 Chevy sounded 30 years ago I would like to use V8, but i don't want to have that V8 sound most V8 engines offer.
Ferrari V8 is a different case, thats a V8 sound i would like to have
Ofcourse it is not possible to have it from US made engines because Ferrari use different kind of crank design.

How about S50B32 under 944 hood? These engines are nice

I think you mean a flat plane crank, here is an interesting thread on different sounding engines.

I run long tubes into a single 3" fabspeed exhaust. It sounds great at idle and driving around, but a bit quiet on track actually.

Yes, then you will have spent cubic dollars and have more cubic inches.

they also use a low-displacement, over-square, high rpm engine....

but, far and away, the most critical factor in producing that exotic sound is the 180° exhaust.

Bingo.... so so sexy both aurally and visually.

Edit: Here's a video of a sbc with 180 degree headers...
My lt sounds almost as good, not quite though haha

Here's an ls1:

The GT40 also had 180 headers:
