Default Is my lower balance shaft off a notch? Still Confused!!!

The top one lines up a TDC, but the bottom one looks like it's off. If so, will I notice a difference when it is correct? I'm strarting to change the timing and balance shaft belts.
Kevin

Edit: sorry here's the picture-

That looks right to me. Rotate the engine until it gets back to TDC again and recheck. If you really want to be sure back it up one tooth and see if it's any closer.

And yes you should notice if it is wrong.

Are you sure about that? The tab points to the tooth next to the one that is marked with a slot on the sprocket.

It looks pretty damned close to me.

Figure if you bump it a tooth, it would be equally as "off" but on the other side of the tab.

Do what ekoz said, roll it around one more time, making sure to rotate it clockwise, and make sure you're dead nuts on TDC (look at the flywheel).

I remember the balance shafts were never 100% dead on.

That's fine mate. If it's off you'll notice a vibration

Thanks for the replies. I hate to keep bugging you guys but I still don't understand and want to get it right when I put a new belt on. I marked up the picture a little.

The red line goes across the tab and points to a notch on the sprocket.

The slot on top of the sprocket that I think should be aligned with the red line is encircled in blue.

If looking straight on, the encircled slot would line up with the notch with the green line on it.

What am I missing? It seems to me that the tab should line up with the notch that has the green line in it.

The "red" mark lines up with the notch in the balance shaft pulley.

+1

You can barely see the notch on the inside of the pulley behind the tab in the pic. That's what you go off of, not the cutouts on the outside.

This should help you understand what to look for... Go to 3:50 in the vid, courtesy of Van Svenson.

I used a little mirror to get a straight on view of the timing marks, couldn't see that well from below and to the side.

Got it, thanks guys. I decided to do the front crank seal also since it drips a drop or two after driving. I ordered a flywheel lock, front seal, o-ring, and oil pump drive sleeve in case I need it. I should be able to get it back on the road this weekend .
