Default Wheel Fitment on 86 951

Hi, a friend of mine has a set of racing wheels laying around in his garage that is collecting dust. Those are 17x11.5 compmotive ps601 with 275/40 slick tires. Do these wheels would be overkill on a 951 ? I'm on koni yellow with weltmeister spings. Maybe I could fit 265s on them ? What do you think ?

Thank you

I would skip those, they are WAY too big for the car.

Are you asking if those rims will fit on your car?

Depends...on wheel offset and left-to-right chassis tolerance. At 11.5", it'll be a snug fit.

I've heard that 11" wheels require some creativity (alignment, fender rolling, etc) to fit, and with 305 tires. Even 295s are tricky for some cars, YMMV. 275 rears should be fine but I don't think 11.5" wheels would work.

I think i'll pass on it. The wheel was given to him and he didnt know these were stagered. The 275s are for the front. Rear wheels have 315s The front wheels are 10 and rear 11.5

Maybe I could go with 245 up front and 275 rear.

I used to run 275s on 10s in the rear. Took some fitting to get the offset right. I spent a track weekend with a fistfull of washers, getting the spacing right. I think the wheel had been speced for the later offset car, not my pre abs 86T. At the time of the wheel upgrade, I had the factory sport suspension and Cup sway bars (30/24 mm). The distance across the top of the tire, from the inner fender to fender lip is 13". The problem is the volume swept out by the tire is also influenced by bushing movement and body roll. Also note that there can be 1/2" difference left to right in rear tire position. This is because the torsion bar carrier is bolted to the frame through a hole on the passenger side, but a slot on the drivers side. Not problem with an 8x16 rim, but it gets tight for ginormous wheels. See ginormous in sig.

If the wheels are three-piece, can probably replace the inner or outer rim half to get something more reasonable. If it wasn't Porsche to begin with, you need to verify the 5x130mm bolt circle.

I'm running 255/40R17's up front and 275/40R17's out back with no rubbing on the stock suspension on 17x9 and 17x10 CCW's.

(Almost) samesies! I had HREs cause they were cheap, but 8.5 and 10x17, since the shop that fitted them didn't have the stones to go to 9s. It was the early 90s, so general knowledge was not so general, same tire sizes though. Pic here at Mosport:

As of today, I put 42mm spacers on the front's, since the 11x18s have such a crazy offset. 285/30s.

Derek, do you recall what offsets your CCWs have? Did you roll or trim your fender lips?

Wheels are dirty and the front tire isnt inflated but it gives you an idea. I could have used 245 front and 275 rear on these rims with no problem but my friend realised he has 3x 11.5" and 1x 10" wheels

The front tire is flat (but only on the bottom), and there's no way the rear is gonna clear the fender. The motion of the swingarm is up and forward. I did measurements with the torsion bars and coilovers removed to check the clearance on my car. There's a picture here:

http://pcaucr.org/media/image-galler...51-streettrack

It shows where the fender rubbed and was pulled out. I hammered the fender lip flat.

Your rear tire is past the fender edge so its toast the way it is.

And why did you move the rear "turbo" logo?

The rear wheel is getting out of the fender by maybe 3/4". I'll use the front tire on the rear wheels (275/40) If it rubs I wont take them.

The turbo emblem has been move by the PO

OEM '86 23 mm offset on the CCW's, no spacers even though the rears could use a little push out to fill the fenders - maybe 7mm's or so.

Thanks. Did you have to roll/trim your front fenders to fit the 9" et23?
