Default Mistake = body damage!

I've jacked up my 951 many times to then place jack stands. There must have been grease on the jack stand surface where it meets the side lift point. When I got it up high enough to then get the jack stands, out of the corner of my eye I could see the wheels on the jack moving back, then BOOM down. Pictures of the damage. Not that bad, and my body/paint guy said it's about a $400 lesson to be repaired with single stage paint.

I noticed this crack today in my new windshield with $350 3M tint recently installed! I have zero deductible on glass, but not on the tint! Hate it when I make mistakes like this.

The short vid was during a tuning sprint through 2nd then 3rd at 18psi, so I've got this to smile about. The car's tune is about as good as it's going to get with 91. We will now tune for 100 unleaded. I don't think I'll be using E-85, but it's available everywhere here in Tucson.

The vid wouldn't upload. I'll change the format and try again.

I know the fall broke the glass. The car wasn't driven since it fell off the floor jack.

I can't find a format for the quick vid to post here. Do I have to load to youtube?

Did the jack slide off the lifting point or did the jack fail by folding? Stock scissor jack or floor jack?

That's a real bummer. Drink a beer, give it a few days.

Floor jack. I'm purchasing the low version as soon as I hit Post Quick Reply. My current 3 ton floor jack holds, but you have to take the square attachment off to get under my car. Never had an issue, till this. Going to get it now.

I've got the Go Pro mount in the car, but this quick I phone video was taken just for fun.

The Vid's not all that bad, since I was steering with one hand holding my phone/wheel, shifting with the other. Cracks me up watching the video knowing the guy with the laptop in the passenger seat thinks I'm nuts, but trusts me anyway.

jack stands are too sketchy for me.
i only use big wood blocks, 4x6s stacked like lincoln logs, under the frame rails and hard points, no chance of slipping there.

Stacks of wood can slide like cards, be careful.

I know what you mean about needing to take the pad off of the jack to get it to fit under the car. What I do is I use a slim scissors jack to lift the car an inch or two, then slide my large jack underneath with the cup/pad.

Mistakes suck, but as far as mistakes involving jacks go, that's not bad.

mine aren't stacked, they are glued/nailed together. two 4x6 blocks spaced 4" apart, then two more on top of those perpendicular, so it becomes sort of a 12" x 12" x 12" block of sturdiness and safety

We use the best 4 ton, 16 ton total, counterweighted pawl locking, very wide stance professional floor jack stands. We've done this for years without ever having a failure. The only superior remedy is for me to install a floor lift, which I've considered many times. The failure was from oil on the jack lift surface and the rubber lift mount.

Bought a new low alum-steel floor jack last night.

just use a jack and square piece of wood and jack up where the jack points are. Also search on here for a diagram that someone took from underneath the car with the jack up points highlighted.
