and shouldn't be that hard to get too...

but hopefully they will do a good job, they normally put a lot of dollars into their project cars (IE the turbo e36 M3)....

Is this issue on stands now and worth buying...or should I wait until something has been done?

Wait, nothing has been done yet.

They are starting with an 86 with 79k miles paid $8500

Article states "unlike some of our more radical projects like Project M3, Project 911 and Project "Maxed Out Mini" this car will be kept completely streetable with minimal changes to factory appearance."

Says "several noted performance companies are lined up and ready to go"

I wonder who ????????

This guy who is writing the article test drove my car. His name is Pablo Mazlumian and he owns that mean M3 turbo you spoke about. He said it is more for his wife to drive. Nice guy, teaches tennis to my mechanic in Riverside.

sounds like a pretty boring project car, 300hp 951? so they will bolt on danno's map stage2 kit, some exhaust, intercooler and wastegate type stuff from SFR then.... the end? 300hp (or close to it) is a pretty common streetable number around rennlist isnt it?

does a european car article about how easy and (relatively) cheap it is to build a 951 mean we should prepare for a surge of 17 yearolds with big aluminum wings on rennlist?

btw car and driver just had a 4cyl tuner shootout and a nice 951 from sfr or guru would have probably kicked *** in that one too...

He called on my car also. He eventually bought an '86 for a great price in Arizona. So here is how it works - the shops do the work for free and they get exposure from the articles. Meanwhile the author gets paid by the magazine for the writeup and also gets some nice mods done for the price of just the parts. Not a bad deal, huh? There is not going to be anything earth shattering that most of us don't already know. This is not a push the envelope type of project.

Uh oh...I didn't think of that. If that's the case let's hope they experience a bunch of vacuum leaks that cannot be found or an engine that doens't delivery spark no matter how long they spend testing components. That should keep the 951 secret society safe for a little longer.

Somewhat related note, Grassroots Motorsports latest issue had a nice article with profiles of various cars for cheap performance - I was really surprised NOT to see any 944 on there!

Grassroots Motorsports has covered 944's in the past, and after testing one for the magazine, one of the staffers bought the car they tested. Maybe they know about 944's, and don't want to let the secret out.

I heard somewhere that the timing belt slipped on that 944 right after they sold it ...

I would love to see and twin turbo project 951.

In sequitial mode like 959. A nice small, super quick spool turbo for off the line and down low, then a big *** k-29 or T66?? ( one of the turbo models that are as big as a basketball) for mid and top end.

Maybe a bit o' NOS???? for ****s and giggles

Then hit the suspension, go AWD of course.

Say about 600hp with AWD??? yea baby!!!! Now that would be a project 951.

Where on earth are you going to fit 2 Turbos?

And that would be stupid complex, there is a reason you see Rx7's and the like get ride of the sequential set up, too many things to go wrong.....

Oh yeah, in the same issue of Grassroots Motorsports, in the reader letters section, was a 944 Turbo owner who suggested that GRM do a project turbo car, (naturally he suggested a 944T).

I think if we take the time to e-mail them that we read that letter and we'd love to see a Project 944 Turbo, there's a chance of getting one into GRM as one of their project cars, which is far more likely to have deeper research and more actually helpful info than European Car, IMO.

The e-mail for letters to the editor is grmhq@aol.com
