Grassroots Motorsports is not doing 951 stuff because we are not their target market - to say the least. They are trying to sell to kids who, instead of spending $600 on just a clutch kit, can buy a whole car for that (Grassroots).

Hmmm, GRM is definitely not a magazine that I see focusing on kids as the target market, unless that includes us "big kids" too! They aren't seeking the high-end of the market, but I think they really do a great job of promoting "back to basics" motorsport.

RJP 951, I agree - special tool, I disagree - I think Grassroots Motorsports is exactly our market!

Grassroots sure isn't going for the kid market, that's Sport Compact Rice and Super Rice - the level of research and knowledge that in in every GRM article are better than most other publications out there, even on par with some in Racecar Engineering and Engine Builder! Grassroots wants to show how to sensibly work on a car with a budget and performance goals - if that's not our crowd, I don't know what is.

I sent them my e-mail asking for a 944T project car - the reply was that since they'd just done a 944 recently, they want to wait a bit before doing another similar car - lets all e-mail and see if we can accelerate that!

Ron and Sam - I think you two missed my point. I think the reason that you never see 951's, 930's Ferrari's, Lambo's, etc. is because they are targeting the BROADER market of lesser expensive machines (including repair costs). That may give a clue about the name of the publication - Grassroots?
Let me see how many back issues of mine I can look through to find an article on a 951.

I'd like to see and article on 944-spec racing. Cheap cars that are right up the GRM alley

Considering that GRM is also now the official publication for NASA, I would think we'd be able to count on hearing regularly about the 944 spec series that NASA supports.

GRM is pretty cool, in my opinion, and they have given much better Porsche coverage than any other "non-Porsche" oriented magazine out there.

heard somewhere that the timing belt slipped on that 944 right after they sold it ...
Actually.... a member of Pelican bought Project 944 from Grassroots about 3 yeas ago. His SN on here was Firestarter, and he lived just north of me. I saw the car several times. It had almost 180k on it, and was slightly rough. They did not do much to the motor, exhaust, plug wires, etc. It had some oil leaks and the ususal 944 problems. The bonus was some sweet rims, hooked up suspension, and 951 breaks.

He ended up selling the car to finance a house. I don't think it ever let a belt go, but there was an issue with oil pressure when he sold it.

We did a project car with Grassroots Mag on 944 race suspension. They compared a Turbo S MO30 car with a 944 S2 with our race coilover package. We are also involved in the project 951 with European Car. No other details until the respective issues are published.

William brought the car by my house shortly before he sold it (I have a cool photo of his car, my car, and Eric's 911 in my driveway). He bought a MR2 after he sold the 944.

The 944 was a euro model with a US-spec front spoiler (so it had two sets of fog lights). He sold it to someone in Indiana. IIRC, the timing belt snapped on the new owner as he was driving it home to Indiana after purchase. Talk about bad timing! (no pun intended).
