Default 951 Motor with V8-style bell housing?

Anyone ever see a 951/944 motor mated to a traditional transmission and rear axle -- e.g. a Muncie 4-speed and Ford rear axle? Curious if anyone has adapted a bell housing, etc. for this purpose?

I seem to recall someone once made an adapter plate -- maybe Chris White for use on a dyno?

A big turbo 16v stroker with that setup would be a beast drag car, I think it would easy to get a 944 into the 10's that way.

Almost certain that black car out of Sweden 3-5 year ago with the Audi i5 motor mated it to a Supra gearbox Tom. There's a thread in here about it somewhere. I'll have a look for it.

That's the car. There was a quite a comprehensive thread in here about it with quite a few pics. I remember Special Tool kind of rubbished it which I thought was unwarranted. Looked a great project to me.

Why are you researching this Tom?

My projects tend to start as a daydream, then take hold in fits and starts over many years -- but eventually I usually get to them...

I've been thinking of getting an old smog-exempt mini pick-up for some time -- like a Toyota hilux for example. I figured if they could stuff a small block in there.....

It might be more straightforward to adapt the 951 bellhousing to a conventional transmission.
The Porsche 944 1"x23 clutch is used on 3.0/4.0 V6 manual trans Ford trucks. It is also used on the current Mustang GT 5.0, as well as old Mopars and the RX8.

Or the Ford/Mazda M5OD trans might fit the 951 block with an adapter plate/clutch setup, it uses that 1"x23 pattern with an integral BH and I believe has the same pilot bearing size.

The 951 bell housing mates to the torque tube, so not sure how I'd adapt it to a normal tranny? Or am I missing your thought?

As for other trannies, it does seem like an adapter plate could allow something close to mate up...

Some common trans have a removable BH like that Supra above so an adapter between the 951 BH and the flat face of that trans could work with the input shaft going thru it
