Default ***924 CARRERA GTS rep REBUILD PICS *** - 944 turbocharger options

Need your ideas on choosing a turbocharger on an engine that I am building.

I want to have the best possible throttle response and low turbo lag and dont really mind going for crazy hp numbers. I am happy with 320-330 reliable whp but want mid range punch

What options are there to choose from aside the original k26-6 or k26-8 ?
Is there a Garrett unit that can be modified to fit on the stock 951 header ?

I see lots of Japanese cars utilizing various units with great results

Anyone has done something similar ?
Engine will be 2,5 951 not 2,8 or bigger

It is going in a lightweight 924 Carrera GTS recreation I am completing

TIA

Steve

Holset HX35 - not p'n'p but they say it's worth it. Look for 7-blade compressor without internal wg.

Here is how the car looked when I bought it. Its a plain 924 that was not in very good condition, and I bought it from the phone. The seller was not very honest with the description so upon dismantling it there were many hidden extras....

not looking for crazy power?

This is what you want
http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Pors...R-SUPER53.html
With the extras
dual ball bearing CHAR
stage 3 turbine wheel

Spools like stock with added top end power 320-350 rwhp easy.
Easy to install. bolts up to the standard flanges. You'll need custom water lines which are easy.

Hello Paully.

Is that a KKK hybrid that Lindsey use ? Is this a brand new turbo ?

I see that you chose Garrett as per your signature. Do you like this turbo unit better ?

It's some sort of hybrid, garrett to4e compressor housing, Garrett IICR it's a 50 trim compressor wheel, garrett stage 3 turbine wheel and a KKK replica housing. Not sure what the centre is though.

The whole unit is new.

the gtx3076r is a much bigger turbo, capable of 600hp. more lag though, and a lot more custom parts (exhaust down pipe, up pipe, modified oil and water lines, modified turbo mount/drain) The write up is in my signature

The k27 is probably your best bet
Fits the stock stuff and should get those numbers if done right and people rave about the power delivery

Get a .50 trim/#8/stage 3. It will easily do 330 whp on pump and you wont find a bolt on turbo that will out spool it.

Call Charlie at Evergreen in Ocala, FL. He'll build you a 27-8 that will spool like a 26, and make more power. Oh, and it'll bolt on. He will use a different and more efficient impeller with it. It is the fastest, easiest, and in the grand scheme of things (i.e. buying all the crap to make a non bolt-in fit) cheapest option to attain your goals. And as it will be machined to the components, rather than to allow for mass production variability, it'll be more efficient and quicker to spool than most other things out there.

Contact RD Eichner at ETG : http://www.etg-giessen.de/tl944.html
He makes the best KKK bolt-ons I am aware of, using modern BW-3K wheels when needed.

Thanks Guyz.

Here are some pics of the car after many many hours of labour. This is where the engine goes into
The car as you can see was in TRAGIC shape. I decided to go all the way and change almost everything. Had many donor cars around so it was not parts expensive but very labor intensive.

The car had a very cheap early 80s plastic Carrera GT bodykit that kept moisture underneath, slowly eating the metal. wings inner and outer rear, side sills etc had to be changed
