Don't know if 968 parts give yo any difference over 951 ones. I have a complete 968 system available and only difference i have seen is a different type drier/pipefittings

Porsche bulletin stated dryer with associated o rings to change, evacuate the system and correct oil for the system so unless the compressor is bad it doesnt need to be replaced so why are people changing the compressor?

I just removed the drier and compressor from a 951. Whole procedure took 15 minutes including batwing remove. Drier is really easy to take out from top. I also changed compressor seals which took about 15 minutes. Most of the time went to cleaning the compressor outside....
Now i just have to have new O-ring to pipes, so we can use R134. Luckily can get all necessary O-rings from a local parts store for around 2€.

What comes to compressor oil there's two different kind oils used in these. IIRC R12 used Denso oil 6 and 968 R134 version have Denso oil 8. I suppose companies who fill AC systems knows what type oil to put in.
Capacity is 950g R12 or R134 and 80cm3 +/- 20cm3 Denso oil

removing the compressor is a lot easier with the DS front wheel removed and the swaybar drop bracket unbolted from the body and swung down. removing the fender liner helps a little too.

you can put ester oil in the compressor to run with r134.

I just lift car enough, so no need to remove any of those items. I installed 951 compressor back today. It took around 20 minutes.

How much oil in the compressor after rebuilding?
As i wrote earlier: 80cm3 +/- 20cm3 Denso oil. This is the amount WSM gives.

I wonder why people here in Finland want to have working AC in their 951's..... When i am writing this; outside temperature is 3Celsius and it is snowing
I am an old fart but i have never seen this happen in southern Finland during mid summer.
Any one in California who want to adopt me ?

What's the best way to determine whether the drier and compressor are bad, as opposed to low pressure switch, expansion valve, hoses, condensor, or evaporator?

I'm wondering mostly about when the necessity arises to pull the dash and get to that pesky evaporator.
