Well, it's been a long, enjoyable run, but my 951 is no longer welcome in the state of California (visual inspection), so I'm putting it up for sale to an out-of-state buyer. It's been a fantastic daily driver, and will be tough to replace.

Thank you to everyone here on Rennlist forums who has helped me learn to care for this car throughout the years.
Feel free to PM me if interested or if you have any questions. I'll post more pics after the holiday.

Sheesh, a good MAF system like Vitesse's or Rogue's will only make the car have BETTER emissions. A freer flowing exhaust (assume for a minute you have a big cat) will only make the car have BETTER fuel economy.
And people wonder why I don't trust the government to be competent to run things.

Yea, the frustrating thing is that it nearly passed the emissions numbers (failed by a hair on 1 out of the 6 or so tests, can be corrected with a newer cat). It blows clean, but nooooo, that's not good enough for California...
This has been a tough pill to swallow, but I'd rather see the car go to an enthusiast here on Rennlist rather than replace the entire intake and exhaust system every 2 years to make some bureaucrat happy.

isn't there a way to install the MAF in the stock air intake system? So you keep the factory airbox and snorkel, but the MAF is downstream of the airbox and upstream of the turbo?
Passes visual inspection without the performance degradation? Will not help with the exhaust situation or failed emissions, but if you want to keep the car...

Sorry to hear you have to sell... I need to start reading up on smog tests in CA. My wife and I are considering a move out west in a year or two (my employer is HQ'd in northern LA area and they have a desire for me to be located there) but that might mean selling my beloved 951 because I doubt it'd pass inspection out there.

get a stealth system and go to a different shop. If you have some flashy parts etc you are asking for trouble. Either tone it down or swap it out, it's not worth giving in to the Prius crusade.
When it comes to cars and laws, CA sucks, but not enough to give up, as long as you know the ropes. Just say no to polished aluminum, braided SS hoses, bright colored vacuum lines, tuning house stickers, and especially cone air filters!
