Default Big red question

Should i get a 5/33 brake bias if i upgrade to big reds on my 86? What would be the difference with the stock 5/18?

I just ordered a set of lindsey racing rotor hats and adapters to combine with my big reds and want to know what would be the best way to upgrade the braking.

I don't know if there's a simple answer to that. When I stiffened up my suspension and lowered it, the stock bias valve resulted in worse braking as there was a lot less front dive and hence there was more weight on the rear. It was much worse than stock. Once I changed the bias to 5/33, it was much better although I probably have a fraction too much rear in some conditions. The rear brakes now get really hot on the track.

Not a direct answer to your question (I'm sure others will chime in), but it will depend on tyres, suspension, etc.

Cheers

I am happy with the 5/33 and big blacks/reds. Still have 2:1 front:rear pad wear. Much less dive under braking. Mike

5/33 OK for street but I don't like it on the track. Too easy to lock up the rears on uneven pavement under threshold braking.

Why not get an adjustable valve? They aren't that hard to install, you get way more room to dial in for best braking, and they're actually cheaper than the porsche ones

I'vd found the same. Although the compromise is still better than the 5/18 on my car.

I have the BRs, 5/33 and stock rears but was getting front wheel lockup at the track on stock rims. I solved the problem by going with 255s all around on Boxster 9" rims and by using a colder pad on the rear. I have no rear lockup problems. Wear is at least 2:1 with track only use.

I thought there was a difference between black and red? Or could this be true?

Only ran 3x20 minutes 2 weeks ago, liked the squatting instead of diving. Will have better feedback next Thursday. 2 days of DE with an open lapping day the third day.
Running Hawk blue in front with Pagid street ceramic in rear.

Typically the Reds are from 911s and you have to reverse the cross over pipe and the bleeders to use them on a front engine car. The 'big Blacks' were from a 928.

911s have the front calipers ahead of the 'axle' and the 944/928 have them behind the 'axle'. If you don't' swap the parts on the 911 calipers the large/small pistons will be in the wrong order.
