After a ton of hard work and great support from my friends and fellow RL's, I manged to pass smog this morning. It was not easy and would not of happened without the full tuning package option on M-tune. It was hairy and a ton of last minute learning literally on the rollers, but all is good now. What a relief!!!

A ton of thanks and gratitude to Josh, Tom, & Shawn!!! Without their support the car would still be stuck in the garage!

Awesome! You are in good hands there. Now take it out and give it some proper breaking in flogging.

First thing I did, change the tune, crank up the boost, found a bridge, broke a few laws!

Absolutely no way to pass without a tune on the fly system if you have an '89 with the stricter limits!

Be home in Florida in two weeks to work on that car. Pull the plug on the vendor. Yes, at least I don't have to get that one smogged!

Simple answer, yes!

Of course, this is not possible without doing your "homework". Even then you will not pass with an aftermarket cat unless you can tune on the fly. Being able to control fueling and timing at certain rpm levels is a must. It was a great learning experience, but extremely nerve racking!

I'm more surprised it passed visual than gas!

I was able to get my numbers below those limits in 2008 with the SFR cat and factory stock tuning, but it took a lot of attention to detail...

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...ng-colors.html

The DEC cat, however, got the numbers even lower. Note how the limits for the exact same car went down from 2008 and 2012.

https://rennlist.com/forums/944-turb...g-success.html

I don't know how a car us supposed to make lower emissions simply due to the passage of time like that, especially when modifications that could improve emissions are not permitted.

Wonder if you could fit two aftermarket cats inside the shell of the OEM piece...
