I personally havnt broke a transaxle. However, there have been many that I've seen break due to people dumping the clutch. Iirc, it was the ring gear.

I think it's dependent on the driver and launch technique.

Like Shawn said, the axle cages break first. I have found that using the empi vanagon joints and Porsche 951 shaft is the strongest on the cheap. If you search you'll find a thread on them. The trans brace seems to help a lot.

Main thing I've found is to keep wheel hop to a minimum and feather the clutch out somewhat.

Regardless, without completely changing the driveline, you won't be able to launch these cars like any other RWD or AWD car.

What would you say is the limiting factor? Ring gear just being weak, or the trans case flexing and causing failure...or..?

Weak R&p and too many weak joints.

If I keep trying to drag this platform, I will be trying to adapt a much beefier Audi trans and will certainly have much stronger axles. I'm actually considering swapping to early control arms to allow for larger outer cv joints. The inners are an easy fix by swapping the stubs and corresponding joints.

I've been looking into all variants of the FWD Audi VW boxes but without having them on hand, it's hard to tell what is necessary.

For now though, I'm playing with the DSM for drag racing.

Either, you will just have to adjust the length of the adapters as the 968 axles are a bit longer!

Yeah, I actually thought about using two line locks in the braking system. One for the fronts for burnouts, the second to hold the rears while staging. I can't seem to get the hang of holding the e brake handle. I'm also thinking of rev limiters and anti lag on each button.

That's exactly what am thinking...I can't get use to the e brake
Location either to stage the car... line lock seems like best solution to take up slack in susension and driveline.
