Default Cheap in the US!

I snuck a picture at the Bangkok Porsche dealership last night. They don't allow pictures. I think because they are raping their customers. For reference 30,000,000.00 Thai Baht is $1,000,000.00 USD. Which equates to about $530,000.00 for a 2013 911S! They are all sold out even at this ridiculous price! A turbo is a cool million! Guess we have it lucky!

Prices are a lot worse in Singapore. You have to pay the government there for a piece of paper (certificate of entitlement) allowing you to buy a car in the first place.

Wow...504,735.50 US Dollars by todays rate...

That same car in the U.S. would be ~130ish?

Yes, COE in Singapore is probably over $100K now. When I lived there in '98 it was $65K. You also must by a tracker to place on your windshield like a toll way device that taxes you by the mile as you drive!

Yes, free service and 9 year warranty for an extra $400K!

Are they that high now in the US? I was thinking around $100K.

These countries are even worse than us, but I've been saying this for years when people in the US are complaining about costs...lol...you guys just don't know how good you've got it. Not to mention petrol and workshop rates. That's actually why there are so many poor examples of 944/951s because the kids can afford them but not really maintain them properly. Nice to say that you drive a Porsche when you're 18!
Hell, I would have too. :-)

Patrick:

What are the typical labor rates in Australia at a Porsche dealer? They are about $195 an hour in California. Surely would not call that cheap, but have no idea about other places. Labor rates are cheap here in Thailand.

My Mother lives in the US and hasn't been back to the UK for 35 years, when I tell her the price of petrol she cant believe it. It costs the same to get it out of the ground, the mark up is the tax our politicians screw us for

That is exactly what I going on in Asia, the price difference is called import duty and goes straight to the corrupt politicians!

I say we buy a bunch here, and sell them over there and triple our profit

Wow that sounds high, but I've never been to a Porsche dealer Eric. If you go to a race type shop you'd be looking at $120-$150 per hour I'm guessing.

Same rate for race shop in California as yours.

I tell my girlfriend this regularly. I've been waiting since I was 12 to own/drive a porsche, and I finally have @ 31. She got a 944 on her 18th birthday, and when her dad crashed it, she got a 951. It's not in the best nick, but thankfully I like to work on cars too. She acts as if it's normal for a 19 year old girl to be owning and driving a turbo powered porsche... I keep telling her "no.".

I wonder how many Thai car guys left the country (with their money as well) because they couldn't live with the taxes! That's literally highway robbery!
