Default Sorry for another post on oil, but...

Previous posts I've read on this topic are very confusing - maybe this one will be as well.

My car is an '87 951, street car, I drive about 5K miles/yr - sometimes somehwat spirited but nothing like a track car would see. The only engine modifications that I'm aware of are an Authority chip - from around 2000, and the Lindsey Racing boost enhancer. Everything else is stock. I live in Houston, TX area - it's 90-100 in summer and rarely gets below 40 in the winter.

I'm changing the oil in the next couple of weeks. I plan to use a full synthetic, and I think I think I've narrowed it down to Valvoline VR-1 20W-50 racing oil or Mobil 1 0W-40, both full synthetic and both readily available. I don't think I need to select some oil that I can only get by mail order.

Based on my car, driving habits and ambient temps, I'm sure there are many choices that would be just fine. I'm leaning towards a 20W-50, because that seems to be the most common recommendation.

Any preference between my choices or other better choices and reasoning? Let the comments begin.....

if you would have read the other post then you would have come up with just saying
1. No synthetic
2. No to those brands and no to 040 oils
3. Castrol 2050

living in Texas, if I had to choose a single off the shelf oil, i'd select a full synthetic 15w50.... but from your super-Walmarts
you can pick up M1 15w50 for about $27.00/5 quart jug and run a Mahle filter. you're not racing or driving like ***, so you'll be fine.

Valvoline 20-50 VR-1. I wouldn't use 0-40

For an off the shelf oil, M1 15w50 full synth is as good as it gets.
