Yes so everybody calls them RARST without actually knowing what it means. That is interesting too. Nevermind.

Don't worry Luis. You wouldn't be the first person to browse the internet and wind up at ***!!

No, I'd use them in a street car unless I had a spare set of R, ARST rods sitting in the garage.

if anything, this is good news to the turbo-my-NA crowd re: rods

maybe porsche was pulling a ford, as the 951 was nearing the end of production they started putting in whatever they grabbed off the shelf first...

I think I'd source a set of forged rods, I wonder if these are the same rods Porsche decided needed changing whenever stripping early 968's.

They are not, the 968 rods are longer.

I had actually meant shorter, but it seems you are correct and they all use the same length rod. The 968 and S2 motors made up for the longer stroke by having pistons with a tighter pin height.

The change to cast rods by the factory for Turbo S motors is for cars built sometime in December 1988. A tell tale sign for cars equipped with cast rods is the lack of the brake cooling ducts that are positioned from the leading edge of the bumper and through the inner fender liner.

John - are these the brake cooling ducts you are referring to, that go through the inner fender liner:

so the 89's with cast rods don't have the brake cooling ducts?

My car has a build date of Oct 88.

Here is a picture.
Rod and piston came from a brand new short block fully assembled from Porsche. As can be seen on the picture, build year is 1990.

Here's something that hasn't been answered and still puzzles me about my engine.
