Sorry...
You're correct.
I should have said all 944 or 968.
And most 924.

The 5 speed snailshell transmission (dog leg) in the early production 924 and 931 was a Porsche transmission with 915 internals.

When I was at the Monterey Historics a few years ago the featured marque was Porsche. I got the chance to speak with the owner of a cool Jagermeister 911. He was in his 60's and told me he bought the car back in the eighties from the son of the Jagermeister founder. He has raced it for over 25 years and said he will continue racing it as long as he can still breathe. Which got me thinking, how much would he have paid for that car back in the day and what is it worth today? What cars could we pick up now that would be eligible for historic racing at a reasonable price that will appreciate in value over the years? Any ideas? Not saying this 944 GTR is one but you never know.

There were many 962's built over the course of a number of years. Al Holbert built his own version of the 962. Fabcar built 962's that had Porsche vin #'s. Other teams built other versions of the 962.
The 944 GTR should be more collectable due to the low numbers built?

However, would a 944 GTR be more collectable than a modern day GT3 Cup Car? I would think so and they are priced similar.

Probably not due to the 962's reputation and racing heritage. A lot of the collectability comes from who drove it, where it was raced and how it performed.

I think the fact that there were only 7 ever built makes them collectable to the right person. I agree it is a shame they aren't seen out much, not sure if they are gathering dust or that they are just too rare to be seen at the track being raced. A lot of the collectables are now just displayed and hopefully for their owners, appreciating. I remember the days years ago when we would see cars like the 962's being raced at PCA events.
