I'm sure about the 2.7 and the 968 block.
As for the S2 block I only saw pictures of bare blocks and there was no windage trays, but it would make sense to have them because of the higher stroke...

Windage port is the right term.

Most of the 104mm blocks have the windage ports, checked on Lindsey's site and they confirm the same.

Yes my block has windage ports (and the mysterious, what is it, centrifugal oil compartment).
I changed rod bearing a few years ago on a 2.5 engine, the bearing looked terrible.
I then changed the rod bearing on wife's S2. Her car had twenty five thousand, or so, track miles on it and the bearing looked almost new.
My take is that the changes Porsche did on the 3.0 block were, at least in part, to cure the rod bearing problem.

Ok, so both S2 and 968 blocks have windage ports, but the 2.7 hasn't (I worked on one the other day and saw none).

The "centrifugal oil compartment" probably is just simply the 2 volumes in the crankcase where oil splashes between the pistons, between 1&2 and 3&4, given that windage ports are between cylinders 1&2 and cylinders 3&4.
As piston 1 slides down towards BDC, crankcase gases will flow through the windage port to below piston 2 as it moves up towards TDC. Same goes between cylinders 3&4.

Thom:

In the link you posted above, it says the 2.7 has the windage ports, slightly confusing.

Either way, it looks like the best way to go is to just bite the bullet and save up enough money for a 968 short block. This way you will get the best of everything including the piston squirters.

Lol, Lindsey, Vitesse and Chris White seem to suggest otherwise.

Fine, but I know what I saw.
You know what blade, you can strip yours apart and see for yourself instead of trolling like you do all the time

Piston squirters are easily added.

Ha ha, after I correctly diagnosed your valve guide issue and went out of my way to source you another 2.7 head when your friend nick_968 asked me, you still contradict me whenever you can, wind your neck in.

Looking at my 2,7 block this doesn't have the ports...

Could this have been introduced a certain year as an improvement? This should mean that early S2 blocks shouldn't have them either?

Anyway, how important are they and should I throw away my block now?

Does the 2.7 engine blocks have the raised deck and siamise cylinders? What model are the 2.7 engines without these ports? Paging Dave and Chris!

Well sorry, I tend to forget it's not you who's always nit-picking or beating about the bush on what you should/shouldn't do with your car/3L engine build and still try to hold your head up when all you show from yourself is posting sarcastic crap on here.
As for your arrogant/racist comment I let you guess what you can do with it.
As for when I was searching for a head Nick did not mention the name of the persons he was in touch with, sorry.

If some 2.7 blocks really have windage ports then it's possible they were introduced sometimes during the '89 model year.
