Default failing turbo ??

So this thing happened twice in a week i was going flat out on 3rd gear around 21psi boost when suddenly car starts to lose its power looked like missfire, but while it was "missfiring" i heard some strange clanking noise on the driver side and it was loud (i was going next to the wall) my first thought that turbo blades were touching the walls in the turbine.. anyway, i went again full boost all gears up to 4th, and nothing.. car just ran fine.. any ideas?

Should i start saving money for bigger turbo or rebuild?

The turbo can do 20+ psi but it is out of its efficency range, and your blowing hot air into your engine which can have a very bad side effect. I would keep boost around 15psi... Pull the j-boot and check the blades, also check the movement in and out and side to side. Blades look grinded then it needs a rebuild, side to side touches housing or moves a good amount needs a rebuild, if you have in and out play pretty much at all needs a rebuild. I wouldn't boost it till you check it out, if a piece of metal comes off into your engine a turbo will not be your biggest paper weight.

Also, at that much boost on a stock boost you have alot of back pressure in the headers and engine. I would be careful.

What is done to the car?????

If you are on stock injectors, you are asking for trouble!!! Ther is no way a stock car with stock injectors can handle this much boost for long and you ARE HURTING the car!!!!

Could it have been detonation you were hearing?

It's often described as a "metal can full of marbles"
