Unless you become significantly richer or poorer I don't know why you would sell.

Great to hear Nick! So do we read that you changed the housing and then went to the dyno and 'did't the headgasket. Did you go back to retune? How did the numbers compare to the old housing?

Looks like ASTs are similar to Motons, which are similar to MCS. Do they have them to fit our cars?

No, that was some time ago Spencer. I'm still of the opinion that the 5 speed is a nicer gearbox and the S2 rp mod is a great way to go for track oriented vehicles.

I blew the headgasket with the number 8 housing which I think we can say categorically is too small for a 3.0 8v running any more than 0.8 bar boost. I then upsized the housing to the number 10 and things seem better but I have not been back to the dyno to perfect the tune just yet. Virtually no loss in spool up with the number 10 either. The compressor is a T04E 60 trim so does not take much to spin up on a 3.0. I might consider going up one size once I get some of these other issues sorted.....

AST's are similar and in fact they are the company that took over Moton. AST do a kit for our car, you can have single adjustable which is compression only. The next step up is double adjustable with compression and rebound which you can upgrade to later if you wish, this also has remote canisters so no issues with getting access to adjusters. They are also monotube shocks which depending on who you speak to have better response and are better on track - the compromise being a little stiffer for the road. However a lot of the BMW guys with M3's and 135i's are getting very good results and finding them a good balance between road and track. They can be rebuilt or re-valved in the UK and the valving can take quite a wide range of spring rates before it needs changing. I am going to get the single adjustable set for now as they say unless you are a heavy track user or competing there is little point in getting them with rebound adjustment. They also do the install for you at the premises and the Euro is on the floor right now which has made the price pretty attractive.

I had good results with the KW on the 993 track car but the KW set I have had on the 968 has not aged so well. I always felt if I could get a PSS9/10 Bilstein kit for my car then I would but they do not do one for the 968. This seems to be as good if not better option to get the monotube setup on the 968 and with the extra power I think it will work well on the road and make for fun track days too.

Really looking forward to that, it's been a long time. I think it was probably when Pat came over and we met up at The Ace Cafe?

I have no idea how long ago that was but must be getting close to 10 years? Pat will probably remember what year it was.....

I will definitely get over to the Ace sometime - drop me a PM if you are heading down. I have given up on the PCGB forum since they re-formatted it as it is such a mess to read.

Glad to here you're still at it over there! Did you by chance measure the back pressure on the old turbo, or the new one?

Hi Tom - still cracking away at this 3.0 lark!

I did not measure the back pressure as the dyno results were pretty conclusive and I did not feel it was a worthwhile exercise. I may do so in the future but I will map the car first. Either way much lower back pressure can be achieved than with the current turbine wheel by switching it for a T350 wheel and using a genuine Garrett turbine housing. Something along those lines may be in my future but for now I will fine tune the map for the number 10 housing and see if I can get a safe tune. Now the heat side of things is under control my attention is turning to making the car handle the way I want it to and getting some track time in.

So the new AST kit has arrived and is installed on the car, not had much of a chance to test it but initial impressions are good and it looks well made.

Fronts are 80nm
Rears are 70nm

Yes. I believe they bought Moton out a while back.
