I have run gates kevlar belts on both my 944 and my 951 for 3+ years with no issues.

I am just now due for a timing belt. This one looks like 2x to 4x the price. Is it worth it?

Get the belt from Rennbay. Supposedly these kevlar belts don't have kevlar in the teeth of the belt. So it may be less likely to snap, but the teeth can round off still. Just some food for thought.

bumping this thread. I have used these kevlar timing belts on my 944’s and finally got to see why I knew it was a good investment. My water pump seized and the belt just slid over the water pump pulley even after I noticed the temp gauge pegged. A rubber belt would have 100% snapped.

That's impressive: I am so overdue for a change on my 944S it's not funny. Do they have one for the S?

(So utterly lazy I am. Maybe it's because I know I can rebuild the head)

George,
what water pump were you using and how old was it?

It looks original. But it’s probably a factory replacement. Don’t know the age. Just the condition. Broke. I have a few more that are seized but the center pulley is flush. What I found strange was the weep hole setup on all of them, they’re not consistent.

Notice the center of the pulley is recessed not flat.

Definitely a 2.5L.
