Default Camshaft Endplay

Installed a late NA camshaft. Looking for end play spec. I measured and I have 0.005"-.006". I cannot find a spec in the manual or at Clark's Garage. I can make the cam/gear assy "clank" by pushing it in and out and I do not remember it doing this before. Any input appreciated.

Looks like you're good to go.

Edit: Forgot SAE -> Metric. Still though, you're good @ 0.127 - 0.1524mm

Thanks Scott. Looks good as spec is 0.004"-0.007". I need a searchable manual. Mine is old scanned PDF.

I have several PDFs, one for each volume. I've read through the Engine, Electrical and Turbo manuals a few times so I (sadly) knew right where that spec was located.

Yes I like it too. You are not thinkIng about using that old AfM I hope?? Also, why not run the cold air intake along side of the blower?

Was originally going to get it going with the 951 AFM but have decided to go with a Rogue MAF setup...

I might end up running the intake more on the driver side but I'd have to re-make the blower hat outlet or inlet pipe. There is basically no room as it is for much of any plumbing with the brake cylinder and lines back there. Already had to bend the lines a bit just to get the blower inlet bolted on.

Kind of long, but you can download the Work Shop Manuals at the link below. It may take a while so just be patient.

I'm probably missing something, but the .004 - .007 posted below doesn't make sense to me, unless you're measuring runout, which is very different than endplay.

Runout needs a dial indicator. Endplay needs a ruler.

Not sure what you mean here. Endplay is the axial movement, I did use a dial indicator. I have a photo of the setup I will post tonight. I do not have a ruler that can measure .004-.007".

Shawn, the ruler thing was my lame attempt at humor. You were asking for end play specs. I'm on my phone, but IIRC, the end play spec is very loose, where as the runout isn't. Hope that clarifies a little..

Keep wrenching

Confession: mine clunked a little in/out and I didn't even think of checking the end play.

No worries. The end play is pretty tightly spec'd at 0.004"-0.007" per the manual (see second post in this thread). Mine measured .005" and it "clanks" a little. Hard to believe it can "clank with only .005" of movement but it does.

Everything is good. Cam tower is getting bolted on tonight.
