Default tires

I know there has prob been a lot of threads of tires. I bent a front rim and cracked while doing so I busted my tire. I was using handcooks ventus v12 EVO but the treat wear was only 280 I'm looking for somthing with longer life and good performance. Only summer tires no all season thanks

Continental Sportcontact 5 is one of the best options for all-round summer (good performance and not a lot of wear) tyres, they also work properly in rain!
I'm driving Toyo Proxes T1R, but if you're a driver who digs cornering, you will need to change your tyres every 2 years.. (like me..) But the grip on the toyo's is way better than on the Continentals!

From you avatar it looks like you have 18s on your car correct?

If so I had good luck with the Bridgeston Potenza RE760s. They were sticky enough for street use, and I even used them for an auto-x or 2. Now when I swapped to R compounds the car was much faster, but the RE760s held up well, and were very predictable.

+1
Can't comment on tires specifically on the 944, but I've had the RE760's on a number of sports cars and have been very happy with them - being asymmetric, you can swap L and R if running a staggered front/rear set-up.

2 years you think? i have a set on the rears, soon fronts too! but the grip is unbelievably good. tread wear is 290 which isn't to bad considering my falken fk452 are 300 and not as grippy.

I'd say it depends on how you use the car... I've had good luck with both the Yokohama S.drive and the BFG G-Force Sport Comp 2 on the street. They're both pretty inexpensive tires, and they both have around 300 treadwear.. actually, I think the BFG is a bit higher. I just can't bring myself to pay Pirelli or Michelin prices for a street driven car. Are they better than the Yokos and the BFGs? Maybe.. can I tell while street driving? Not really. And certainly not enough to warrant the cost difference.

I use Continental DW tires on the street and they are fine. They have a little higher treadwear rating than the v12 EVO, so I imagine they'd last a little longer. I've even done a few track days an autocrosses on them on another car and they weren't horrible(coming from more street-race tires like the RS3 and RE-11).

Try the sumitomo htrz3. I have had the potenza re 760's and they are kinda pricey. the sumi's are almost as good for much less money....

One important thing to note is that treadwear and traction ratings are determined by the manufacturer. This means that you can't directly compare two different brands of tires for treadwear! The Hankooks with a 280 treadwear may last 10x as long as something with a 300 treadwear, for all you know!

Just thought i'd throw that out there. I have the Ventus EVO's and i love them, but if you want something cheaper then there are plenty of other choices.

Could be, i don't know! I have had mine for 15k or so. I feel like they probably have another 15k in them. That's definitely not good tire wear but there are worse.

My last set of tires were g-Force Sports. I was messing around on a mountain road and they overheated causing a loss of control (it was like being on ice when they overheated!). After that experience i am definitely willing to spend more on tires that i can trust, even if it means more money up front and faster wear. All things to consider!

Read the reviews and pick the best balance for you. Damon might be able to help you choose, too!
