Default Little Xmas Treat- LR Instant RWHP Kit worthwhile?

Hey guys!

So I was looking at the specials on Lindsey Racing and they have a Instant RWHP Package kit on special (about 80$ reduction). It's currently going for 461.95$ opposed to 542.75$ regular price.

It includes the following:

•Lindsey Racing Chip Set

•Lindsey Racing Boost Enhancer

•Bosch 3.0 Bar Fuel Regulator

•Smart Shim Wastegate Shims

I wanted to know all your opinions on this. This is pretty much as far I am thinking of going in terms of Performance modifications to the car. All I really want is for the car to feel a little bit more powerful and funner to drive.

I did some research on my own and apparently it's a pretty good kit. Is the 3" Exhaust upgrade worthwhile? The reason i'm asking is that it's quite pricey for my budget and i'm seriously wondering if it'll make that much of a difference for about 700$ more.

Also, don't really think i'm going to upgrade teh wastegate as I explained that I will prob not be upgrading it more than this.

Anything I should verify before I install the kit? From what I understood, I need to verify that the car is ready and set for performance upgrades but for such a small kit, what do I really need to check?

Thanks for all your help guys!

Holidays are right around the corner

It will definitely be a performance improvement and fairly simple to install (aside from the WG shims).

That said... for $461.... personally... I'd go a few more bucks and take a different route.

Rogue Tuning A-Tune ($300... or $350 if you need to have him modify your DME)
3.0 FPR ($120 from Lindsey though I'm pretty sure I bought a Bosch BMW unit from a local parts store for under $100)
Used boost enhancer from someone on RL ($20?)

You'll get WAY more overall performance (a nice off-boost around-town performance increase on top of WOT increase).

I haven't done any performance modifications yet. This advice is from what I have seen posted in other similar discussions. Before you do any performance modifications, you need to make sure the engine is well sorted and install a wideband air/fuel ratio gauge and aftermarket boost gauge. Not a performance enhancement, but this is the best starting place for whatever follows.

From what I can tell, I believe you have to remove the wastegate to install the shims, Its in a tight spot, If you gonna go so far and installing shims, You mine as well upgrade it to a dualport unit and save the trouble of reinstalling a 25 year old unit

What year is your car?

Best bang for buck cheap mods: (must do together)

Chips (vitesse, rogue a tune)
MBC (lindsey or who ever)
3bar FPR
Test pipe or gut cats
WG shims or a 'real WG' (Tial or Lindsey Racing)
Wideband and boost gauge
These will put you around 250rwhp on a 26/6 or 270rwhp on a 26/8 car.

I have an 86 951.

Actually, i'm going to go with this kit because I can get it from another rennlist member for much cheaper!

I just need to buy a Bosch 3.0 FPR, PM me if you have one in great condition or new Paypal Ready

If you get it you'll still need at least the gauges. You'll see some gains, but when you remove the cat you see more. Either way it will be a bump vs a stock car.

If that is all the performance mods you plan on doing to your car, then it will perform better than stock. So yes, go for it in that case. If you plan on doing virtually anything else later on, then no, you're wasting your money. And I don't mean because it's a bad product, because it isn't. What I'm saying is that if you later decide to up the boost, change the turbo, change injectors, headwork, go to a MAF/MAP, etc... you'll end up having to ditch most of that stuff, as it will only be setup specifically for the car as it is now.

I have 3 cars with all different levels of change. My son's car has basically the instant rear wheel kit with the addition of a cat delete pipe. For its intended purpose it is a great simple kit, makes the car smoother power is better in all ranges . As other's have stated the dual port waste gate is better but there starts that slippery slope ! In my Sons car I wanted simple , still has a cyclic valve which is not simple.... however...for its use. it protects me from him upping boost !
