I was seeeing over 65 c with a gt3071 at the track(25 ambient). I replaced the intercooler after that. Got it down by about 20 degrees.

Those are some great numbers...granted it was a bit of a chilly day but damn...around here sometimes the ambient gets to 40C...

With another 951 intercooler or...?

Put a front mount on as replacement.

That's a great reduction in temps Rod. Nice to see positive results from modifications.

That is with a SFR front mount intercooler, fed by a GTX3076R.

I'm pretty sure a stock intercooler will get heat-soaked pretty bad with any compressor flowing much more than a stock K26 compressor, as Rod has observed, and/or if working out of its efficiency area.

Do I get a price for lowest IAT
This is at the end of 5th gear going uphill at the track.
Outside temp was very low, around 6+ deg C, and low boost @ 0.9 bar but the temp never excedes 23 deg C even after 3 gears of boost.

It doesn't count... I'm sure the air going into the engine through the sump helped loads...

My IC is very large and angled to promote airflow through the IC&rad and out through the hood vents.

Yes, I'm sure the oulet in the hood helps tremendously, along with proper ducting.

PS : sorry, it was a poor joke...

Hey Duke, is that just duct tape on the intercooler and radiator? Also what is that ducting from the intake to the turbo, it looks better than the regular stuff used for brake ducts?

The IC and rad is mounted face to face with 2 mm rubber strips along the end tanks. But the design of the rad makes for a gap at the top and bottom. I used duct tape to seal that up to make sure 100% of the air is forced through both the IC and rad. Details

The blue hose is an air intake to the cabin. No heater or cabin fans left in the car so it's good with a little extra air to cool the driver.
It's a flexible plastic hose designed for workshops. It's not really an alternative to silicone based hoses since it is too stiff to use on a moving part as the upright.

Thanks for the info, I am going to seal up my front mount IC to my factory rad for the same reason. Re the hose, I meant the grey hose you used from the air filter/ intake to the turbo.

Let me add my experience before this thread fully disappears.

I have a fast responding thermocouple at the turbo outlet and another one just after the throttle body and monitor the results on a dual display gauge, but don’t have any logged data.

On a 25psi run (a few seconds only) I see above 300F out of the turbo, but the manifold temperature barely increases a couple of degrees above normal, which is ambient +20F.

In other words the OEM intercooler does a great job for street driving.
