Refresh951's Hybrid Ultra Stroker Build
#211
My GT3582R shipped today. Should have it by Friday. Got most of the mounting and plumbing hardware ordered thanks to Paully and mclarenno9. Hoping to really get going with fab work this weekend.
Got the Nissan alternator installed. This job took me much longer than I expected. I spent at least 6 hrs getting it done. Put me in the "grinding away" group, this job sucks. Make sure you order it with the 6 rib pulley and I am sure it would be an easier job.
Also, my MSD HVC-II Coil showed up so I decided to get it mounted. I removed the wiper fluid reservoir and mounted it on the passenger wheel well. The coil is bigger than I expected. This location should work out nice and I am happy with how it looks. The old Bosch coil has done its job for 25 years and it is definitely time for retirement.

Sid's 1/4 mile times would beg to differ. Many in the DSM community are using Holset turbos to accomplish some pretty amazing things.

Thanks Greg. Love your car! Must be great to cruise in the 951 in the Rockies. Went to school in Ft Collins and still miss looking at the mountains every day.

Rather than be an ***, why not post up where you found this.
Diesel is 130k BTU/Gal
Gasoline is 114k BTU/Gal
Diesel does put more "work" into the engine, so it loses more energy in the power stroke.... but I have a hard time believing diesel exhaust gas is colder than gasoline exhaust.

The only thing "not stock" on my turbo is the hot side. Holset hot sides are just too big dimensionally.
I think you'd be surprised at how well they work in gasoline applications. There have been many back to back comparisons on DSMs and the Holset is on par with the gt series. IMO it is a better choice due to its robust center section.
In the end, ther is a very small difference between performance of BW, garret and Holset. The Holset is just much cheaper.
I race with guys that have the other turbos and honestly, I'm pulling more mph even with my pos 2v head vs different 4v setups.
So..... IMO its a perfect turbo for a gas engine.
Egt's do not effect them any differently.

I'm not going to muddy up Shawn's thread but the proof is in the results. And I like mine just fine.
What do they say.... A man with experience is never at the mercy of man with a theory.... Yeah... I like that saying.

I recommend getting an inline oil filter. Before i pulled my engine apart, i was reading though threads and came across a thread where IICR it was Spooln51 Waqqas GT30's bearings got toast after something blocking the restrictor.
I bought one just for a small insurance. small price to play to save something expensive.
Edit: P.S you'll need to shorted the bolt that holds the adaptor into the turbo. you'll see when you put it in, it's to long. well mine was.
