Default Turbo is louder than normal

Hi Guys. The past 2 times I drove my 951 I noticed that the sound of the turbo is much louder and pronounced than it has been since I did all the modifications a year ago. The only change I made before the last 2 drives is I replace the tube the connects the hardpipe to the throttle body with one that will eliminate the hardpipe popping off under full boost. It seems strange. All things are otherwise normal. All pipes, tubes etc are secured completely.

Any ideas of why it's louder?

In my experience when parts get louder it means they are about to fail. But you can wait for someone with a little more technical to add their two cents.

It sounds like a turbo spooling up but just much louder. Very hard to explain but much louder than I've ever heard it sound before. The car has just over 2000 miles since all the work I did to it.

make sure the rubber coupler is not actually caught under the throttle body. that can happen. if not check for turbo shaft play

I'd smoke test it for leaks. Can youu feel any vibration through the clutch pedal. Usually, from my experience I can feel it when the turbo is getting out of whack. Fortunately that hasn't happened in a few years..

On the contrary my turbo was suddenly quieter after removing the intercooler pipes to clean things up a bit... It's so quiet I can hardly hear it at all but it boosts fine.

Frankly I liked it more when it sounded like a big brotruck spooling up.

Spoke to one of my mechanics about the noise and he said I may have lost a firewall plug and that's why it sounds louder. He said its from the intake side of the turbo based on my description. I'll make sure everything is tight.

When turbos go bad, they spool slower and make a high pitch whine.

No issue with spool, but if the turbo is on its way out after 2000 miles, I'm gonna be pissed.

Update- Just an FYI, there is nothing wrong with the turbo, I had the hose clamp for the intercooler pipe to throttle body clamped in the wrong place. All is fixed and car runs like a champ.
