Car caught on FIRE this morning!

Had some drama this morning with the LS swapped 951. I was backing the car out of one stall of my garage to put it in the center bay of the garage so I could wrench on it.
I got 2/3's of the way out of the garage when the car died. Then I noticed what I thought was steam coming out of the hood. I got out, opened the hood and to my horror I saw flames licking up near the bellhousing!
Lucky for me just a few weeks ago I'd brought some fire extinguishers home from the office and had one sitting in the garage 10 feet away. I grabbed it and used it to douse the flames. First time I've had a car on fire and first time I've had to use an extinguisher. It did the job but it made a huge mess.
All I could think about when I saw the flames was that I don't have a stated value policy on the car and I was going to get screwed by my insurance co!
Source of the flames was the main fuel feed hose had somehow popped off the fuel rail. Which is ironic as I was putting the car in the center bay to install a new fuel filter kit that replaces that hose.
I cleaned up the mess with an air nozzle on my compressor than a garden hose. No paint damage, just some soot on the underside of the hood. Some wiring insulation got fried, but no wiring damage. I had to fix a vacuum line but once I secured the fuel feed hose the car fired right up. Got lucky this time...

happened to me. Just happened to have a fire extinguisher in the car. I will never drive without one again. saved everything. Just a mess to clean up.
Now go tighten up that line. Don't forget.

On the C5 that is actually one of those push-lock fittings that you need the special tool to remove. I wouldn't run just a hose clamp on that. They make push-lock to -AN fittings that you may want to look into.
Glad you got the flames out before it became a much larger issue.
Edit: This kind of fitting: http://www.jegs.com/p/Russell/Russel...29877/10002/-1
I think the LS1 rail is 3/8" but double check before you order.

Those fires get out of hand pretty quick, my dad's 7 series BMW went up in flames a couple of years ago, fortunately it was outside but the trees were scorched about 40 feet up - it would be a quick way to lose a house. I would say you were pretty fortunate. If you had stuck with Porsche's original design this might not have happened - kidding.

Glad everything is OK now. One thing I'd recommend is spending some cash on a KleanGuard fire extinguisher (or whatever the brand is called now; keeps changing). Dry Chem extinguishers are highly corrosive and need to be completely rinsed off after use, otherwise your electrics will get eaten up.
KleanGuard, on the other hand, requires no cleanup whatsoever. I've had to use an extinguisher on a car four times; one of those was with a dry chem whereas the rest were KleanGuard/HalGuard. Play, they put out fires better than dry chem does anyway, meaning less chemical required.

I have a Halon extinguisher in the car, but it was quicker to grab the one sitting in the garage rather than jump back in the car and grab the Halon one from the rollbar mount.
Yes I know about the factory connection on that fuel rail, the new fuel filter kit that I'm currently installing replaces that line that popped off with one that uses the factory connection. Ironic, eh? I was literally pulling the car out of the garage so I could put it in the center bay to install that kit that replaces the line that caused the fire.
Hopefully no long standing damage, I was able to clean up the powder right away. I'll be taking the car to the shop today, I'll have them go over the wiring harness and repair anything that looks bad...
