So is H beam better than I beam or X beam (Pauter). Windage characteristics of Pauter would seem better. Given I probably won't be near the limit of any of these it might not matter, but how would you choose?

Decisions decisions. Looks like a toss up between Wossner and Pauter. I presume there are no clearance issues with the Wossner.

So what is everyone's opinion on replacing rods without rebalancing the engine (ie only matching pistons and rods)? Is this likely to be an issue?

I put a set of Arrow rods in my engine for insurance but, having said that, I ran three race seasons with the stock early 968 rods running at high rpm for long periods and they looked fine when I pulled them out. I know they were identified as being 'weak' and I have never had them crack tested, but am just saying that the stock rods don't automatically self destruct with heavy duty.

It is more for insurance. They may be fine, but who knows?
