Default T04B Too Much Lag for Street Car?

Hey guys I just acquired what appears to be a T04B Turbo from Lart and I'm debating whether it will produce too much lag for a street car. Lart mentioned spool was at/around 3700 RPM. Here's the specs I've gotten from it:

A/R: 60
Compressor Wheel:
Inducer: 2 3/8
Exducer: Just under 2 3/4

Turbonetics KKK Replica 8# Hotside
Turbine Wheel:
Inducer: 2 1/4
Exducer: 2 5/8

Appears to have 360 thrust bearing, standard journal bearings, overall good easy rebuild, no wear on the shaft.

Any info or input will be help greatly. Originally I wanted a k27/6 which I had and sold so when Lart posted this I knew it was a great buy just dunno if it's to much lag for my need, I usually don't hit 4th gear unless on the interstate.

I would say 3700 would be way too much lag for me. If I ever upgrade my turbo I would think about going with a Vitesse turbo or look into trying a more modern day design.

depands.... driving around town with a high spool rpm will save you gas.

Hmmm...That is a little laggy for me. Anything over 3400 is laggy for street use imo. Do you have an EBC, MAF, 3" exhaust, IC pipes etc...to help out with the spool time? I am sure you got a good deal on it though so you could always let it go if it doesn't work out.

I assume you girls are driving automatics right? here check the video that is a much larger t04e that spooled around 4100rpm and I had plenty of power band, oh shut! I forgot I am a older generation and know how to use my stick unlike young folks

I could always keep the hotside housing and drop a t04E garret 57trim in it or just have it rebuilt try it and if I don't like it sell it.

lol Lart... I'll probably rebuild it drop it in and just enjoy high hp numbers lol

I could always change the compressor wheel to a 48 trim, 50 inducer by 70 exducer that should help a little on spool I would imagine with a lighter wheel. Any who rebuild kit is being ordered and I am currently cleaning this baby, once I get the kit in I will start a turbo rebuild thread.

Well if Lart puts it that way then go for it. You'd be shifting like the fast & furious all day. Just make sure car is pointing straight when the the boost hits and be ready to shift again.

With how long the gears are in this car it would suck to drive that in hilly areas or just on the street in general. I think the stock turbo has a little too much lag. Although when you're wide open it doesn't matter.

I just did the measurements on the compressor wheel to see the trim, my calculations say 74trim.. if thats right that's rather large. Inducer was 60mm and Exducer was 70mm. So (60mm X 60mm)/ (70mm x70mm) X 100= 74

It's really about transient response. I don't even know where my turbo hits 1 bar anymore but it feels awesome as it rises through the boost.

This turbo looks a little small to have good transient but may be good spooling. I'd fit a 57mm wheel in there and have at it.

You really need to look at the wheel design to determine the transient of a larger turbo. Too many blades and it will be sluggish from my experience. A good 6 blade wheel takes large chunks of air each revolution, so while it may not fully spool fast it will make good power on the way there.

This wheel has 6 pairs of blades, so far finding a to4b 57trim wheel hasn't come up I've found 60 trims and 50 trims so far but still looking.

Yeah you are limited with the "B" housing. I forgot about that. IMO what you currently have would be the slowest spool of the b housing wheels but would give ok transient. That wheel is designed for lower turbine speeds.

When talking about trims you may want to be looking at to4e turbos rather because the b housing uses h,s,v trims etc. none of which are good for over 300 hp IMO.

that turbo should be ideal for mild street use heavy hwy use, once it spools you will be pressed again your seat, if you want a turbo that spools at 3200 and delivers a heavy punch I dare anyone here to show me one mounted in a 951
