Default Road in 2000 911 Carrera

Well I had a customer come into my store today and he pulled up in a 2000 Carrera so I asked him if he would give me a quick ride. Sure enough like any Porsche owner he was proud of his car and willing. Honestly after riding in it I like my 951 better, the interior looked plain to me, the seats were nice and comfy, the brakes were great, the acceleration and power were disappointing my 951 is about as fast under acceleration and similar in power output. The Carrera has the NA 6 cylinder with 300hp at 2900lbs. Any one just putting it out there, I'm happy with what I got even though she needs love.

I test drove one before deciding on a C5. It was nice and tight, handled great, and had enough power to not be a bore. I thought it was a fantastic DD, but ultimately the C5 was cheaper, had more power, was cheaper to maintain, and easier/cheaper to mod.

I've owned an '01 Carrera for ~3 years now and use it as a daily driver. The feel is very different from my stock-power 951S, but I like both. It's deceptively fast, though, and pushing it through the twisties is a very different feel to the 951 (i.e. very light and responsive in the front end).

I agree that the interior materials in the 996 are a step down from the 951.

Gave a guy a solo checkride in a plain ole 996 C2, and was absolutely blown away with how fast the bone stock car is on the track. De gustibus non disputandem est.

I've toyed with the idea of selling my '87 951 and replacing it with a late model 996. I've driven a good number of them. If there is one thing I really liked it was the torque and it's availability. The 996 just didn't need to be pushed hard to perform. It's fast and comfortable with plenty of creature comforts. But, IMHO the 996has two major drawbacks, 1) a less then inspiring interior full of cheap plastics and 2) they eat rear tires at a brutal rate!

Ya I liked the car overall, like you mention interior was a draw back but performance was very nice. I wouldn't mind having one but if it were between a sorted 951 and a sorted 996 well I would take the 951 if it's lightly modded. Performance was similar to me for the most part, but the 951 you see less of which I like things more unique.

That's a lot of why I couldn't do a 911... they're like locust around here.. they're everywhere.. tons and tons of them. I almost never see another 951 though.

I've had my '99 for 5 years now, and still love it! (But I mostly agree on the interior, however I have the GT3 bucket seat, which I love.)

I've taken my 996 to the track a few times, and have always been impressed. On street tires, it's only slightly slower than my old 951 track car.
