Default Anyone using Koni 30 series rear shocks?

i'm thinking of going to series 30 rear shocks for a coup[le of reasons. first, they are super affordable; you can find them shipped for around $100 each. of course, you also need to invest in the racer's edge super expensive rear coilover adapter bolts @ $150. second, i want something with more dampening than standard koni sports as well as more durability. i have rear bilsteins on my car now but these are way too soft surprisingly and i really like the my old koni sports better but i'm tired of them blowing or loosing effectiveness.

so just wondering if anyone is using the koni 30's as they are not specifically valved for our cars and are in fact made for oval track racing. nevertheless, paragon sells them alone or with a budget rear coilover set up so i'm sure they work well on 944's.

link to konis site. 5325 is the specific shock which although universal is the one used for 944's:

anyways, just looking for any info from real life users, both with otherwise stock suspensions or also using an additional coilover spring.

many thanks

We use them on two race cars. One with coilovers and one with torsion bars. They have held up well. Not a bad choice for the money.

what range of spring rate can they handle? and do you custom valve them or just plug & play?

yeah, the first ones (cheaper ones.) they are single adjustable, although not infinitely like most konis. instead they have a push button which you hold down while turning the rod to set one of the 4 total settings for rebound.

My coilovers have 700 lbs springs (nominal) and the rebound setting is at 100%. I believe that is the limit. Yes, mine were custom valved for that spring rate. So I was told by Ground Control.

did you ever use them with stock valving or with the stock (or near to stock) suspension on the street?

and thanks for the info....

I have not. I think they should be okay at the lowest setting. A bigger issue might be the solid mounts in terms of transmitting road noise and vibrations.

Would those ineed a 2.25 or a 2.5 coil over kit on a 944? I have the 3012's on my 951, I'd like something less expensive on my NA.

i believe you can use either size spring but the koni perch kit designed for the shock specifically uses 2.5", google "koni 30-0000" to find the coilover perch kit.

and of course you can just use the shock alone and keep the torsion bars which is what i'll probably do at first and see how that works. and then it's fairly cheap and easy to add a coilover spring, well except for having to re-index or remove the torsion bars of course.

Need 2.25" for the rear, and koni strut diameter requires 2.5" on the fronts.

Ah Ha! That's where I keep getting that 2.25 thing from! The rear shock spring!

yes - I have the full coilover kit from ground control, I think I have #550 in the rear. Coming from bilstein escorts - much better (for the street).

Thanks for the response. Do you find the 500's in the rear to be harsh? What spring rate are you running up front to match those? Would you recommend this setup based on handling/ride quality (I'll be using on street as a weekend car)?
