Looking for a Racing Seat with bad upholstery
So, I've been holding out on getting a racing seat for a while now since my script sport seats are in such good shape. But I really want to run more-than-a-three-point at DE's so will need to upgrade.
I want to feel out the market for any structurally sound racing seats that have bad upholstery -- I plan on doing some recovering to more closely match my interior. Plus, you often can't give ripped up seats away.
My car will not be raced, so doing this shouldn't be a problem for DEs.

Thanks Bill -- great suggestion. I'll have to stop by. I've been looking at seats with recline functionality, like the Recaro Sport. The Sport can even come with a beige insert that may actually match my interior...if that's the case, then I may not need to recover the seats in the first place.
This all stems from the desire to have my cake and eat it too: racing seats AND have them match my interior (I.e. look like they belong).

Truth needs told, I don't really care. I think yes, I would, since I would still be driving on the street and often using it like a normal street car.
My main requirement is to be capable of using the 3-point if I wanted it. So, given that, plus my use case, I would say sure-- how about reclining and 3-point compatible.

If you think you might be interested, we bought a 1-pc seat for our Lemons car, which turned out to sit too high for the taller guys on our team (6'1-6'2). If you're under 6'0 it'll probably fit you.
It was literally used for maybe 2 hours of drive time at a test day, and we pulled it out. We cut out the bottom seat cushion looking for extra head room but it wound up not being enough. Other than that it's brand new.
We'd let it go cheap, it's collecting dust in my buddy's shop. If you're interested let me know and I'll get some more details. I *think* it's made by Cobra, and am fairly sure it's FIA approved (we didn't want to have to run a seat back brace).

If it is for a street car, I would advise against a 1 piece. I drove mine from Knoxville to Road Atlanta (3hrs 45min) and my back was messed up for 6 weeks. Yes, a lot was due to lack of lumbar support, but I still think you will be much happier with a reclining seat.

Our seat is a Cobra Monaco, just like this one: http://www.gmpracingproducts.com.au/...ats-monaco.php
Just no seat cushion. (The thigh pad is still there.)
$100 + shipping from Chicago and it's yours.

Thanks guys for all your great comments/suggestions. Jim, that's very tempting, and I'd love to take it off your hands for you. I really am going to have to agree with 67King on this one though -- I do need reclining seats.
If you lived in northern VA I probably wouldn't hesitate to pick it up. Plus, I'm 6'2" so I may not fit anyway. :-/
