What are these?!?
Hi, I need help identifying a few things in the bicture below. It's not my car, just a shot I found with a good view. I recently installed a MAP and these came into question.
First, the "A" item - That port had a hose that went to the stock airbox. It now has no where to go to. I'm assuming the cap in the picture is for the same reason I need one but cant tell if it's a closed cap or a mesh top that allows air in. Whatever it is, what is it called? That way I know what I'm looking for.
Second, the "B" item - This is just curiosity. I've noticed on pictures of other cars that they've upgraded this item to something that looks much better. I'm sure it can't be just for looks though, right? What is it?
Thanks for your help. Rookie questions for sure but I'm new to the 944 world and even newer to working on my own cars. I am, however, enjoying the process very much.

A- A cap that plugs the belt inspection hole. Most cars just have that open.
B. Blow off valve. A lot of people replace those with a better unit when adding a bigger turbo.

Still available from Porsche for $5.27 each... N/A uses 1 on the air box, and one on the cover, Turbo uses on of the 94410610303 on the belt cover...airbox uses 94410610300.. also still available for $3.90...
I might have a copy of the tech buletin, or at least a number refference to it at home...

Regarding B) - I think the primary reason most people upgrade these is because they're prone to fail. They're old plastic, the inside is a simple rubber diaphragm. The original one on my car failed right after I bought it, and the car had ~125k on it. I swapped it out for one a local (now out of business) import car shop sold that was all aluminum (vs. plastic) but looks identical to the stock one.
Stick a vacuum pump on the nipple and see if it holds vacuum. If it doesn't, it's bad and needs to be replaced.

Have the entire 924-44-68 family on the home computer... and I DO remember having read the TSB once upon a time, just have to dig it back up!

Burning Brakes
Item A was originally a vent for the Timing/Balance Belt Cover with a hose back into the Airbox. Turned out to be a bad idea as MORE crap found it's way in. Calling it an Inspection Port is Tec Speak for 'Oops'

Probably has something to do with this would be my guess.

Later cars had breather disconnect, where is that yellow plug. It's not any kind of inspection hole. I suppose factory found it out not to be necessary. All 1985-88 220hp versions should have breather hose from factory. Most 250 hp ones didn't had it.
