Default Car is a bit loud - thoughts to reduce drone

I am running a 3" Lindsey system with a 14" Magnaflow muffler and a universal catalytic converter. I recently swapped out the resonator that Lindsey sells (Outlaw?) and installed the catalytic converter hoping to quieten the car a bit. There is no noticeable difference.

I am not looking to kill the sound, but just deaden it a bit for the long distance drives. Any thoughts on how one might achieve that result? A longer muffler or a different muffler?

Many thanks

we've talked about resonators and some of us have installed them and the results are amazing.... get an SLP Loudmouth like this one from Summit.... mount it just behind where your cat used to be.... will work wonders (by cleaning up the sound) with the existing wastegate and magnaflow.

I'm running a Flowmaster 50 (quieter than the 40) with my LR 3" and no cat. I think that the sound is completely reasonable, but without a back-to-back comparison, I realize that's completely subjective.

I'm running a Lindsey 3 inch system, no cat or resonator, and a Pypes M80 straight through exhaust. My car is loud and drones, also pops on over-run, and is really loud when the wastegate opens.

The best thing I find for keeping it quiet is having my helmet on at the track.

Fergus, is it loud only when you coast, or does the drone happen at steady speeds, too?

That new exhaust that you brought down for my Audi definitely gets loud when you coast at low RPM. I'm probably going to want to figure out a fix for that.

btw, i had a thread that got off to kind of a rough start...

then a few people decided to try the SLP in concert with the Magnaflow.... first a couple guys, then a few more.

all positive reviews and a couple of clips on page four....

I plan to do about 2 1/2 hours in the car tomorrow in mixed driving and will further report impressions if there is interest.

Have you checked for exhaust leaks at the flanges? That'll cause some drone in any exhaust.
I'm using a 18" long Magnaflo with the 9x5" oval case and it's very quiet on a full 3" exhaust and hi flow cat. No resonators. I also avoided installing a megaphone shaped muffler tip.

Agreed, I added a Dynomax Bullet muffler in the cat section of my SFR exhaust and that cured the drone for me

I have the same problem and was considering SFR resonator since it bolts right up. Has anyone tried it?

To the OP, are you talking about the 3k rpm drone?

No it's seems louder across the spectrum of engine speeds. However is it worst betweem 2400 and 3000 across the board. This makes it really intrusive on highway cruise.
