Rob, Great Job! I have been looking for this setup for a while. I have a new set of HD's under my bench. Did you get the .025 deep from Bilstein? I was going to make my own setup but didn't know how deep to cut the shock for the snap ring...and I didn't want to use..well if you see oil spaying out you went too far...
Very cool !!!

Thanks

Brian

Very cool!!

One question: I know nothing about the forces that the snap ring would see on our cars in a 250lb "helper" spring situation, but is there any concern that the ring and body w/groove is up to the task?

Looks like a cool project. How did you get the bilstiens to fit up front though?

Rob, do you know if Bilstein HD inserts will fit in a Bilstein cup strut? I've got a full set of cup coilovers that I've decided not to install because I'd have to revalve them for street and buy new springs. With your mod above, I'm thinking about selling the rear cups, using HD's in back, then remove and sell the front inserts, and swap in HD's up there as well.

After all that, I'd be able to sell my full M030 set intact for someone that wants an upgrade.

Does that sound logical at all? It seems do-able if the HD inserts will fit in the cup strut mounts.

8 inch or 10 inch springs how do they differ as far as performance?

Rob, can you offer any insight for me? (post #11 above)

I'm planning to start selling some parts soon to finance a replacement short block, and I want to make sure I only sell what I won't need to upgrade the suspension .

Great writeup! If I hadn't already upgraded my T-bars, I'd definitely consider this route.

Can the Bilstein inserts be made to work in the later housings? I did a conversion today with the Koni's, and it was easy. I imagine it would be the same process?

What tooling did you use to cut the groove for the snap ring?

Sorry, the above post was meant about the front struts.
