Default Streamline mirrors

Cutting apart the 944 mirrors to make them smaller. If you ignore the fact that I made my care look like its 1/2” off the ground, what do you guys think about the mirrors?? I’m really not the biggest fan of the 968 mirrors on the 944’s and I have been thinking of picking up a spare set and seeing if I can make some streamline ones.

I've been looking for mirrors for some time, but I just can't get myself to like the 968 ones enough to buy them. I don't mind the stock ones but I think they date the car a lot, make it look older. I would like something that fits the cars looks and age but do not look out of place. I think the 968 mirrors look out of place on the 944.

I was going for the 80's super car look where the mirror is up high because the car is so low.

I agree the original "flag" mirrors take me back to the 80s... Obviously its a personal matter of taste, whether the 968 mirrors look OK, but I went with them because one of my flags was broken and the 68 mirrors were designed, engineered, and installed on a very similar body style by Porsche. Not to mention they were fairly inexpensive (under $300) for the whole OEM package, new in bags.

Good luck on your project.

i dont know about you but i find that the stock mirrors are fairly useless anyways - there doesnt seem to be any position where you can see much of anything in the blind spots...at least from my seating position (all the way back).

making them smaller would not help...

How about up on the A-pillar, like a testarossa?

I think, by its definition, "blind spot" means the area where the mirrors *can't* see. No regular mirror will help you see in the blind spot. There are convex and segmented mirrors for that job - and even then, they just make the blind spot smaller:

Ok, well, then the stock mirrors are useless for seeing much of anything at all alongside the car. Too small, not enough angle to view with. None of my other vehicles have any issue here.

My center rear-view mirror is wider than stock and I can see the full width of the rear window which is enough for me. If it were legal to remove both of the "ears" I would ASAP.

I'm not to sure that I really use my mirrors ether, I just like pointing my mirrors so I can see the curve of the rear fenders as I drive

I don't find that my 944 has any big blind spots. My seat is almost all the way up though (I'm 5'8") so I guess I dont see that much of a problem with making them smaller.

Thanks, I'm not sure if I'm about to cut my good mirrors up just yet I'll let you know on the mirrors.

I would like to keep the defrosters if I do it, has anyone taken them apart before, wondering if I'm going to have room to keep it all or not.

Tiburon Mirrors work great. I posted the bracket dims on 944Hybrids.

The defrosters are built into the glass... and if you shorten the mirror housing, you'll need to cut your own custom glass. So the short answer is: No, you're not going to be able to keep it. Also, the motorized mechanism is pretty bulky in there, so you'll probably have to ditch that, too.

If you want streamline, look into getting these mirrors from GT racing:

BTW, here's what it looks like behind the glass:
