Default 951 Value on the Rise?

Interesting article:

At least the low mileage original examples.

I'd say so, but theyre still in the late stages of depreciation. You can still find a $3000-$4000 951 at this point. As more and more get parted out and wrecked, its going to get very hard to get your hands on a clean example. I'd give it another 5 years or so before the prices start to really increase.

Good signs, especially for the 944s.

After a tiny Engine fire (that cost $1900 to repair including a new harness) Insurance paid out a little over 10K for my 951S with 200k+ miles, and that was after deductible and buy back. Prices seem to be holding or getting better even in this economy, IMHO...

They should manufacture these again with a few modern updates. They'd sell like hotcakes... never gonna happen but...

I had mine appraised at $60,000 in 06'. I hope to have it worth $80,000 plus in the coming months.

But, with that said, it's only worth what someone will pay for it. At a high bid of $46,000 in Scottsdale in 06, I'd say that's still pretty damn good. If we really want our cars to appreciate more and more, it is actually in our hands. We all have to make our cars as nice, inside and out, and the market will respond.

So many cars out there that really aren't worth anything. Take the old classic pick up trucks. They are bringing in insane money now at auction. Many People loved them for many years. Then those people started to really fix them up. The public started taking notice, and they prices began to rise at market. This is how we can increase the value of our cars as well. We continually strive to make them look better, run better, and faster, than anyone would ever imagine. My car is a perfect example of this. And I see a lot of others really making their 951's very nice. I'm not talking race cars either. The general market place has no interest in race cars. I'm talking taking our cars and making them exceptional street cars. I like to think of them all to have the potential to be super cars. Excellent gas mileage, timeless beauty, and for me, to be able to spank the daylights out of almost any production car out there.

I imagine they will fair just as well as any other all aluminum engine. Eventually it will get to a point where people will start nickel plating the cylinders to get more life out of the block. If the RD350's are still running strong I'm sure this 4 cylinder block that has alu-sil plating will fair just fine.

I am pretty sure I saw your car in DuPont Registry a long time ago for sale at the time for an awesome price. I don't know if it made as much power as it does now of if you have really done a lot more to it since then, but I have always loved it.

On another note never look at a car as an investment. The only cars that you can do that with are Drop top Hemi Cuda's or Chargers because there were only 3 of each ever made and there is a high demand for them.

Thanks Driver, I appreciate that.

And on the investment thing, I know these cars, and most others besides the ones you mentioned, are investments. I just like to try to get as much out of them as possible.

I have seen much higher asking prices lately but not sure how those have equated out to final selling price.

LOVE Amelia Island!

Maybe we should do what the 928 community has been doing recently. We can all get together, and double or even triple our asking prices on our cars. If you see someone selling too cheap on autotrader, ebay, or craigslist, send them a polite note to raise their price.

This will really increase market value...because if people can ask $60+k for a clean 928S4, we should get at least half of that...Because there is no other way 928s could jump in value that much

Is it just me, or does the left rear bumper end look wrinkly? Might just be my screen...but for 700mi I would expect it to be PERFECT.

On a good and/or creepy note, yesterday in the Mailbox I received a full page letter from a major car dealer. "We want your 944 Turbo", "top dollar paid", then went on to list my Options. My car has a Stocker! Suppose they went through the DMV, but that's illegal for us little guy's, could have gotten the VIN when it was parked somewhere I suppose. Well written letter, so I may answer with an outlandish price, north of 30, but that tactic backfired when I had a NA, not for sale and not that high, and the dude agreed - stupid money but I miss it. Just saying, there's interest out there now from the big boys.
