Default Fire at the Darling's Home

OT. But I can't sleep. We were in the final process of remodeling the kitchen, and two of the bathrooms in our home. A fire started in my daughters bedroom above the ceiling in the attic. Must have been an electrical short. Me and my wife were not home, and my kids got out of the house with the pets. Extensive damage. Almost completed with an extensive remodel, and I think all needs to be redone.

My daughter just got home from the hospital to make sure that the smoke she was exposed to won't cause any issues.

My daughter 17, took control, had my son help get the pets out of the home while calling 911. We know this usually never happens, but we trained our kids for such a situation. The fire was in my daughters room at first, and she remembered to shut the door once she saw the flames. Neither parents were home till after my kids got to safety. I'm proud of them, and am truly glad there are here with me and my wife tonight.

I'll be meeting with our insurance company tomorrow early AM. Thank god my family is fine.

Thanks for listening.

George

Sorry to hear this, but good to know no one was injured.

Looking forward to hearing that your insurance will cover all damages and what the precise cause for the fire was - all homes are potential victims of eletrical shorts.

George, so sorry to hear of this! Glad the kids and pets got out safely and congrats on raising such level headed kids! Was the fire related to the remodeling? If so, there may be plenty of blame to spread around the insurance companies...

George, I'm so glad the kids and animals are OK. Houses are just boxes that can be rebuilt or fixed, its the people we share them with that make a house a home. Hang in there. I'm giving my kids a hug as soon as they wake up!

Wow George! I'm glad your daughter stayed so level-headed. I definitely want to teach my kids to be the same.

Sorry, too, George. On the upside, bad things happen all time in our lives. Its the preparation and reaction to events like this that count, and you've obviously done something right with the kids.

George, so sorry to hear this...I'm glad everyone got out (including pets) and the family is ok. Your daughter is amazing, not sure many of us would react as she did under those circumstances.
Godspeed on recovery and repairs.

Sorry to hear this, but really glad that no one got hurt. Sometimes we take life for granted, and we dont realize how lucky we are until something like this happens. Hopefully someone who reads this teaches their children how to react in an emergency, and another house owner finally decides to let an electrician inspect some wiring that has been gnawing on his mind for months.

Thanks, and good luck getting your home repaired

George, Glad to hear your family and pets are ok. Anything else can be replaced. Sounds like your kids handled themselves well, kudos to you and your wife for educating them on things like this.

Glad everything worked out for the better. Sounds like the kids are more level headed than most grown ups.

Thanks guys. This will be the last OT post on this subject. I only post on the 944 turbo forum. I met with Travelers Insurance adjustor, my client that is the owner of a restoration company, and the fire investigator this morning. The adobe block is fine with the exception of the front. The entire roof and all walls will be stripped to the studs. Looking for a rental home as I type. Looks like a 9 to 12 month project. Looks like I'll be getting that 4 car garage done during the rebuild.

Thanks for the comments. My kids are doing better today. We are staying at the mother in laws place, and I'm having a blast.

Think my car will be done before my house?
