Boring Old Man Rally
Not really a rally, but a great weekend. For those looking for a "Big Turbo" or "3.0 build", this isn't that kind of thread. Sorry.
16 cars met at our local flying patch and set off on an overnight trip from Indy to Lake Barkley State Park in KY. A 320 mile route that twisted through some great roads and cool stops. The extreme mix of cars ranged from 2009 M3 Dinan to a Smart.
951 prep was fresh VR1 lube, install the wheels (Gemballa Racing 18s with 285/30-18 and 245/40-18 PS2s), and a good detail.

A spirited 1 hour run got us to our first stop at the Oliver Winery in Bloomington, IN. 40 bottles purchased, we were off to an Amish Restaurant in Loogootee, IN.
I had made much fun of the 3 mini's in our group about their small stature.....until I saw this....

After stuffing ourselves with home cookin, and lots of pie, we were off. The driving in the front of the pack got more spirited as we sprinted towards Ferdinand, IN to buy cookies from the Sisters of St Benedict. The monastery has a bakery, and we like eating almost as much as touring. The rest of the cars parked in other locations, but this is over half of the herd.

Cookies installed in hatch, it was off to cross the river and discover the backroads of KY. Needless to say, a full day of driving with good friends and good cars was something I hadn't done in a long time. Too long.
Happy hour at the lodge consisted of many empty bottles. After dinner, cheesy "Receding Hairline Rally 2012" hats were passed out to everyone, and phase 2 of happy hour resumed.

Sunday morning came with a 4:30 departure to make it back to our son's race. Ugly. Off road racing involves traversing miles of gravel road. Uglier.
Mondays at work suck after such a great weekend....

Thx Charlie! They're growing on me. Understeer doesn't seem to have gotten any worse, and the grip is amazing. I did new caster blocks and 4 wheel alignment 2 weeks ago. Nice difference. Cat bypass is on the plate for the next mod. You going to fest?

I hope so. I have a lot going on right then, but I'm definitely planning to as of right now!

We're planning on making it, but like you, its busy here.
Doug, its a Bursch pipe, but not stainless. I've considered the 3" stainless, but in my avoidance to big mods, the 3" starts the slippery slope....

Doug, its getting there, but I wasn't so sure about the wheels when I put them on last week. Now when I look at the phone dial pics of it, I cant imagine bolting them back on. They were smooth and had tons of grip this weekend, and the car ran like mad and had zero problems all weekend (800 total miles). Hope to see you (and that old man of yours) at Fest.
Rich, its ahead of the Smart, that's for sure! Its a lot of fun demonstrating to new car guys how quickly a 951 will go from 60-130 or so.
