i was told 100k- 120k is when you should start considering it.
I have seen tired engines abused with high boost and last much longer than a dyno session.

Sorry to hear about your problems.
I went down to IMA on Saturday and the place is top notch and the guy who runs it is very nice. They had maybe 7 944 variants they were working on.

Carlege,I put car in shop. Ask for all to be looked at. I DID NOT say just add x to car. If everyone seems to know to check/inspect this .....I'm sure shop knew as well. Dont have a lot of answers for ya. Would have to ask IMA,I'm looking for understanding as well.I hope to know more soon.

Fair enough. Its has already happened so not much you can do but get past this point in your 944 ownership. Hope to hell you get the car back in running condition.

Not really sure how you only got 265 hp since alot of people have the same setup and run 290-310 @18lbs

6 pulls is nothing. try tuning in every cell across the RPM Range on no boost and boost

I wanted it gone over,a/c,timing belts, water pump, grounds, fuel system,etc.... We don't know what damage was done. The guys are gonna work w/me on all of this,so I'll know more later. I wasn't trying for some 21psi car! K27/6 is mild, this is street car. Was shooting for 300hp. I'd be fine with 275-280-290,don't need 350hp and all that. I'm sure one day she will live again.

I hope I didn't offend
when I mentioned maintence I mean the internal , these older cars should be checked internally before any one spends the monies on the out side expensive bolt ons, custom turbos O ringed heads, the timing belt and water pumps is one thing, I would basic and much needed service , but when adding boost and focusing on higher engine rpm and power out put the the bearings, rods is what I focus on . Believe me Ive been there looking into a bin of broken parts . Most engines that Ive taken apart , and I guess guys on here would confirm that the bearing always have good signs of wear as well as the thrust bearings showing the good old copper color, so when we add more boost and rpm and higher temp , these area like to let go first.

I asked about the turbo #6 hot side u were using with the 27 front . The #8 hot side although a little bigger works easier building boost as well as keeping up with the engine rpm rage as apposed to the #6 .. or even cutting the bell a putting a Garret wheel inside and keeping the outter cold the same size with a larger wheel . ( quicker spool up ) ??

You'll be back on the road NO stress.

Parnel,

When you are ready to learn enough about your car to wrench on it yourself...

Let me know, we will get together, and you will come away feeling like a ground up restoration is an evening stroll in Germantown!

Sorry to hear this... sucks...

IIRC, I believe I told you IMA isn't cheap... but damn are they good!

Your power was likely down due to AFR, and the bearing eating itself!

Dp,no harm no foul. When I take my car for service I always ask whomever to "Fix my car" in total. I have a copy of service bill before this trip on personal page. Maybe that might show a better picture of state of car.

op,

if you or anyone is might be interested in setting up a 3.0, i have a good 968 engine (Eric Hill will be pulling out of my car for v8 swap) sometime in late May or early June. you or anyone who wants it, i'll let it go as a core with all good parts and ecm for $1,600 + shipping. engine has good clutch. i also have an extra clutch with low miles.

if you start all over it could be year(s) before you see your car going again, are you building a race car? 3l conversion ain't cheap, specially if you dont do the work for yourself, I would love to get a 968 engine to drop into a 944 na , that's is probably a blast

Your right Lart. Sounded goos for a minute. If bottom end needs rebuild I might go 2.8 maybe.Dan said #2 bearing went, waitting to hear cost. I might just put her up for a year and just start over. Kinda mad at myself for not stressing "check whole car" strongly enough. Could have done rebuild and some of the stuff I got. When everything seemed to be going well, I dipped into budget for extra stuff. Now the wife is involed,NO WAY she is gonna let me just keep throwing $ down the drain.
