Default Pass only airbag delete possible??

Hello. Ever since replacing my cluster in my '88 I have the big red "!" light and airbag light. I guess my old cluster's bulbs were burnt out. I know my drivers side airbag is good (I replaced recently). I was repairing my glove box tonight and noticed I have NO drivers air bag. It was removed by the PO come to find.... Anyways there are two pairs of Blue and brown wires that were cut that appear to have gone to the drivers airbag... Can I do something with these to make the car think the airbag is there and get rid of the lights...??

The orange control box is there and is plugged in intact and not hacked at all...

I did search air bag delete and read the write up at 944s2.com, but it doesn't say how to just delete pass airbag.....

Thanks...

If you can get hold of the electrical manual, you can trace the power to the coil through the ABS and alarm circuits. WHen you do, just unplug the module and short those two wires.

2.8-3.3Ω 1/8 watt resistor plugged into the airbag plug should do the trick. You'll have to do the reset procedure. You may be able to get an airbag shunt from airbagonoff.com too.

Or you could get another airbag to replace your missing one. I'm sure there is a certain someone who can help you. I'd say, but I don't want to just blart it out.

Which connectors, exactly? I still have my module from when I gutted my car. Not sure how much wiring, but the small red connectors are still on my module. I may have an airbag (passenger) somewhere at home, too. If you can scare up a picture of which connectors you are after, I might be able to help you out.

I'm guessing they are the ones that plug into the air bag. It looks like someone snipped the wires rather than just unplugging them...uggghh

Maybe I should just cut the warning light wires from the module. I don't really care about having the airbags but the lights drive me nuts...

Well, if you don't care about having airbags...

Unlug the airbag controller, jump pins 3 and 4 with a short piece of wire on the body side round connector and call it a day. I can't remember for sure if you have to pull the bulb out of the cluster or not, but I don't think you do. And if you want to take it a step further, use a small pair of ViceGrips to remove the rip nuts on the controller and impact sensors. The airbag system in these cars is stand-alone. The round connector interfaces with the main harness to illuminate the dash lamp and cuts off the engine in case of airbag deployment.

Just ended up snipping wires 5 and 7. Works.

I have thought about doing the same thing, but would there be any insurance ramifications if you removed safety equippment?

I never removed the airbags. They were deleted by PO. I just got the lights after replacing my cluster... The wire snip did the trick though.

With a car this old I don't think it would matter. As far as you know they were removed before and "you didn't know". Insurance companies don't go looking under your dash for airbags so I wouldn't worry about it. From what I've been told these airbags are pretty unreliable as far as working anyways....

Resurrecting an old thread, does this work for the driver's side airbag unit as well?
