Springs for the track
What is the consensus on spring rates for the track? I have an 87 Turbo, with an LS2, Racers Edge camber plates, 968 sway bars, and KW V3's, with 500 in the back, but only 340 in the front. I would like to leave the rears alone for now, but I definitely need more in the front. What do you think?

Well a bit hard to 2nd guess a few things…but, from what I understand, the V3s had similar valving to the next version up (which I had). According to KW Germany, they can take a pretty decent rise in spring rate without being re valved. I ran 625lb fronts and 708lb rears (in concert with Mo30 T-bars). Then took the T-bars out and upped the springs all round to approx. 800lb f 900lb r. This was while using 275mm x 18” NT01s all round. When switching to 275/285 Hoosier R80 slicks there was an instant rise in body roll, so could have increased rates again probably. Now running a different setup.
So you could easily run a few hundred higher on the fronts, but worth contacting KW just to see what they advise just for the record. To clarify, do you still have T-bars installed? What tyres are you running? Sizes?

I ended up going with a 580 front and 680 rear... The car will be on Hoosier D5 slicks for now. 285 fronts and 315 rears. i have the same body kit as you have, with a GT racing front bumper like Dubai... i think my week spot will be the 968 sways right now... And then I need solid bushings. Do you think it'll be okay for the season?

That's fine I was told those weren't the limits but just recommendations, if KW isn't doing the spring swap you lose your lifetime warranty but if you put back the old springs and sent them in, I don't know how they would know the difference anywas..

Assuming that when you purchased them from KW you told them what they were going on...therefore 'should' be ok. The front rear ratio sounds about right. Don't forget pics and video!!

The shock shouldn't dictate the spring rate.
The shock should be valved to the spring rate needed.
Without torsion bars, running 315's NT01's on all 4 corners... A 650lbs/750lbs spring rate is too soft. There is just too much body motion.
I just sent my Bilsteins off to be rebuilt and revalved for 850-1000lbs front, 1000-1200lbs rear, moving up to Yoko slicks.
I'll report back in a couple of weeks...

Agreed, but if you have a shock already you still need to work within it's valving 'span'...unless you do what you're doing and sending them off to be re done.
Sounds like fun Tony. Bout time you got onto some slicks. Be interested to hear about the Yokos.

There are a LOT of factors that go into spring rate sizes. Tire size, tire compound, weight, driver's ability/experience/style, sway bars, and shocks (different shock manufacturers use different weight oils, which does impact the spring selection - for example, LEDAs only use about 75% as much spring as Motons). I would have recommended spherical bearings first, to be honest. Your sway bars are fine. I am inclined to think you are probably still a tad undersprung considering your tire selection.

Tony, the rates were 580 front 680 back. It's only a part time track car at this point. It's in for paint and the new LS3 so when I get it back I'm redoing the rear suspension. Next year I will spring for better coilovers. I just want to drive it at this point! I'm definitely going to go softer on the sway bar first thing though. It was super loose last year. Right now its being painted French Racing Blue. 500 horse LS3 going in next week, with LS7 cooler, oil filter relocation kit, and a few other goodies. Wish me luck! By the way, I'm going to be licensed in Cali very soon!

I think a square setup works well with these cars. Check with spec crowd.
