I am going to be putting a new cage in my track car. It is fully gutted. Does anyone have any good recommendations on a cage kit that can be welded together? I am thinking 10-12 point? I am kind of unfamiliar with what is out there and I am being directed to just drop 5K for a custom cage. I'm trying to avoid this! Thanks!!

neat painjob. I merely took notes of what other drivers did at DE & race events, then had it replicated on my car: cost about $2500. also, Autopower has weld-in cages with options: look at that as well as they are vehicle-specific.

If they still make them, Safety Devices makes/made a nice cage. I have the bolt-in variety and it fits well. IIRC they had a weld-in version, too.

Additionally, make sure any 'cage in a box' you consider meets the requirements of the organization you are running with. For example, I had to have an extra rear tube added to my SD cage, and as it is now, I don't think meets NASA's 2 separate side impact tubes.

When it was all said and done, though, a custom cage wouldn't have been that much more expensive than my bolt-in by the time I paid to have the mounting plates welded and it assembled and bolted together.

Consider getting a custom cage, it will fit better and will stiffen your car. It will probably be safer too. How tall are you? - getting clearance for helmets and knees is important and this is more easily achieved with a custom cage. Mine cost about 3K installed and painted to match, included a bar behind the dash - point is you need not spend 5K although a good local shop did quote me that number so it is not unreasonable.

Spring for the custom cage. Mine was $4000. The custom cage will give you a lot more room in the car. The weld in cages also will make the car much more rigid, with the inherent handling improvement. I had the Autopower until last summer when I had a custom cage put in. I will not look back on that decision.

Yup, hanksville will likely be the cheapest and lots of positive reviews from them. We can get some really nice custom cages done here locally for about 2000, but if shops are quoting you some ridiculous price out there, then that might not be an option. I'd shop it around, 5k seems like robbery.

I run a safety devices cage. it is ok, but custom built is much better, especially if you can run the front hoop bars further through the dash.


stay away from the autopower stuff.

Continuation on a custom cage. If you are willing to give up the glass in your doors, I would seriously consider NASCAR style side bars. Unfortunately they will protrude into the door cavity which requires the doors to be gutted.

the doors are fully gutted along with the interior. Bars are def worth it.
