Default What's the hole leaking coolant at the end of 88 head for?

Putting an 88 or 89 motor in my car. Pulled the 86 with scored cylinders out. I was puuting coolant in and it was leaking collant out the head near the firewall. \With the motor in the car I could see a hole, which looked to be threaded, over the freeze plug that is on the firewall side of the motor. I checked my 86 motor and there is no hole there on the 86. What is this for on the later motor and what goes there. if it's just a bolt any one know the size?

No pic. For clarification the hole and freeze plug are on the head. It's in between the can tower rear cork gasket and the freeze plug on the head.

That is about were you would drill and tap a hole for the LR steam vent.

The head was possibly tapped for a steam vent.

It does work, you can see a stream of bubbles in the tube. You could also put in a plug for the time being.

One great thing about the steam vent is that you no longer have to burp the cooling system.

+1

I put one in last winter when I had the motor out and "no burping" is good enough reason for it to be worth the cost.
