Slevy you might have seen a turbo with an "S" badge stolen from an S2.

I'm beginning to wonder. A neighbor of mine has a couple of the silver rose. Both have the "s" on the back. It's a swoopy "s" like on the carrera 4S. It's not blocky like the 944S or S2. Make sense?

hey guys thanks for all of the help. The car is at the shop right now getting the linkage problem fixed.I had perry look at it isn't a turbo "s" ...damn! it was a nice dream though.Whats the deal with the tow hitch ring in the front?? did that come from the factory or did one of the pervious owners put that on?I will look in the tool get when i get the car back for the hook that goes with it.I have all the original manuals and service history dates back to 11/16/88 when the car was purchase in chicago. Some guy named R.L.Rock .Then he drove it to richmond where it has apparently spent its hole life.I was looking at the receipts and he sold it in 94' to a guy named Roy S. Lee....who had the car for until 98' and spent on new seals, bearings, clutch, tires, speakers, and a allignment job.He then sold the car to billy upchurch and his brother tod who over the course of the next 5 years put all kinds of money into it.I looked and on 2/7/01 a quaiffe rear end was installed along with a hole new gear box with new synchro's.They replaced most of what looks like is still on the car to this day.Ecu,o-rings,hose's,all gaskets, sensors, you name it.On 10/16/00 the turbo was sent of to be rebuilt, along with the rack, and most of the entire plumbing system. The are so many receipts with little springs, and brackets, and rings....that are all like $500 and up visits...I wonder can i afford The upkeep on this car?? Infact most of the big stuff like the turbo, rear end, tranny, rack where all replaced at or between 145k-155k the o.d. now reads 159,721.Carter bought the car in 02' and has replaced some parts himself.I have only had the car for a few days but i can tell you its fast! It has a lindsey boost enhancer on it.Driving back was a real pleasure even if it has 450 lbs springs with koni shocks.I hit 150 mph on the freeway in tenn. before getting out of it..and that was at 5700 rpm.The car will pull all the way to the red line no problem ..prolly like 165 mph.And man can it ever jump for 50 to 100 in no time. well thanks for all of the reply with all of the help..it means alot.I have a digital camera so i will post some pics soon of the car and you guys can tell me what you think.take care <img border="0" alt="[bigbye]" title="" src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" />

Porschhhh951, TurboTime et als,
Here's an excellent link with the most comprehensive information (in a single spot) on the 944 Turbo S that I've seen to date. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the info at the following link, but based on personal experience (I have a black '88 Turbo S), it appears correct and believable:
<a href="http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/" target="_blank">http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Pit/4786/</a>
You'll see that the VIN has no significance in determining whether or not you have an "S" (sorry Greg). Plus, the lack of option M758 doesn't mean you don't have an "S". Engine serial no. and engine code are definitive indicators (see what Dan P/944 fest wrote). You'll see you can send in an info sheet and the fella who runs the site will let you know if you have an "S" model.
If you want something formal, PCNA will do a certificate of authenticity if you give them your VIN and submit the fee (was $35 a couple of years ago). Be sure and tell them you'd like them to chime in and determine if it is either a Turbo or Turbo S.
Enjoy your car and be sure to try a DE (150 mph on the street is a bigtime no no in my book).
Mike

I think they mean the STOCK gauge shows 1.82 which is 0.82 BAR BOOST - ~12 PSI - that's more like it

the tow ring is part of the tool kit, keep it with you, but take it out of the front. if you happened to tap something, I would rather distribute the force than concentrate it on the on spot and knock out the radiator.

While we have the code experts listening..
I'd like to replace some carpet. I have an 89 turbo (s). Rear carpet piece has the following tag on it..944 555 063 03/2fR 6061 16/057 grau.
That tag indicates a gray carpet but mine is obviously beige. And the tag appears to be original. Any thoughts?

hey mike. I have been racing since i was 10.Sorry to worry you about my driving...it was on a freeway at 2 a.m. in tenn when i ran 150mph.I run pca,scca,er...at tms, pennington field, motorsports ranch, mineral wells.I intend on taking a newer ed course at motorsports ranch. The car is running good.My mechanic used race wire to hold the bolt in place. He also said that it was completely dry underneath...he has seen many turbos and he said all of them leak someone just a little he was surprised at how clean the car was mechanically and smiled when i told him i paid 7k for the car.Anwyays thanks again for all of your help and i will look into getting it certified by pca when i return to competition....oh hey does anyone have any cool personalized license plate idea's??? i wanna get a cutom license plate

The best way to tell are are the wheels, brakes, and chassis.
The S has
Club Sport forged wheels - Look like design 90's but different in that they are forged and have a slighly different spoke.
Brakes. rotors are from 928S4 so should have 928.xxx.xxx part numbers and be different from left side to right side. Their venting is direction. The calipers are much bigger on the front vs the rear also.
Fenders.
the S has "rolled fenders" This mean the inner lip is rolled in rounded on the inside. Non-s cars just have square edge. The story on this was that it was done to ensure clearnace for the larger stock tire size.
Chassis stiffener.
Look under the coolant expansion tank. There should be triangular piece of sheet metal going from the stut tower forward to the frame rail. Should be about 4" long by 2" high. This will also be on the other side of the car under the power steering tank.
It is important to know if you have and S or not since there are some differet parts. One of those is the coolant hoes. Due to the siffener the coolant hoes to the tank are little different
I have a S. There is no special vin number nor "S" on the back no a particular list of options. My does not even have the M758 option on the option label. Just M030 and bunch of other stuff.
BTW.. I have checked and the Turbo is a k26/8 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
