...and I often confuse people with my setup because I've got an '86 body/VIN/engine, with late offset & M030 suspension. I think I've clarified that in my signature now .

Quite nice room for the kids on the back seat. Here's my two of my three sons. Arno is about 130cm and Peter around 125cm. I suppose they can use 944 back seat 3-4 years to come. Eldest son is 184cm, so he has his own 951 project

This S2 cab belongs to a friend of mine. I will convert it to 951 cab during this winter.

Imho this Baur made cab was the best looking one. I suppose ASC made the cheapest offer to Porsche.....

Check out this pic of the Baur cabriolet. Air Bags, new ET, ABS, sport seats, different tail lights etc. all this in Frankfurt motor show 1985

I did some test fitting of the old wheels on the new car today. I need just a tiny bit more room for the rear tires. They rub going over big bumps. I need spacers or some way to fit over the front bearing caps. I will most likely just have my old spacers modified to fit. I might need a bit more room in front to as I want to lower the car just a little bit. There are no rubbing issues in front as it sits.

Have you changed 951 engine to cab? I received last Friday a 951 S engine from Scotland for 951 cab project. Mostlikely i am going to remove the S2 engine from cab during next week.

I have not put the 951 engine in the yet. It is sitting in the garage waiting.

I got the wheels to work so now I am getting close to engine decision time.

Here are the three options I am considering and some of the benefits and drawbacks. This is just a street toy that might see an occasional DE.

Swap in the 951 engine I have waiting in the garage. Cheapest option - I was getting a small bit of oil flowing into the coolant and it was leaking oil from a couple spots. Fixing these issues would not be a big deal. 323 RWHP

Swapping in a V8. Mid priced option - Lots of work and parts shopping. Low end torque and simplicity when it is done. ???RWHP

Rebuild the existing 3 liter into a turbo. Expensive option - Some serious fab work needs to be done to adapt it to work with the 951 parts. New pistons, machine work, etc- I can use some of the existing parts from my existing 951 engine. ???RWHP 3 liter 16 valve engines do not seem to be very common especially in a cab. I think this would be very cool to do.

So what should I choose?

I would put the 951 engine in, as originally planned. Least hassle for the hp.

Agreed 2.5l. turbo in the cab would be great. I wouldn't spend the time or money on the other options since you already have this setup waiting.

I'd do the 3.0. Swap the pistons and rods, use the 951 dme/klr, flywheel/clutch. Custom intake and swap the header flanges and you're pretty much set. The power potential is as good if not better than the ls1 for less $$ IMO.

At a measly 15psi you would be close to a true 400rwhp.

I personally would love to be starting with a 3.0 car. I definately would not step backwards to an 8v turbo.

Car looks great! I've never seen one with a grey top.

I would also recommend the 8V turbo especially if you want it to go as quickly as possible.

Olli, where did you find those old photos, those are great!

Some trivia - IIRC all the 944 cabs started out as coupes before they were sent to ASC I think. However 968 cabs started as cabs.

Looking very good!

To all, Have a happy Passover and/or Easter!

Be safe, have a good day!

Cheers

I am not in a big hurry to get it done.

I am thinking about swapping in the 2.5 liter and then taking my time building up the 3 liter.

These pictures are what I had in mind.
