Default Lower current drawing Cooling fans

Anyone replaced their factory fans with some that are lower current drawing? I have noticed my car's voltage drops quite a bit when the fans kick on. I'm not sure on other cars if this happen since this and my Jeep are the only ones that have Volt meters stock. The Jeep is driven by the power steering system.

Yep. I have:

Tornado Single 5" Fan
315 cfm
3.6 amps
6-1/4" W x 5-5/8" H x 1-1/4" D
Total Depth: 2-1/4"
Mounting: 4-1/4" 3-hole

Tornado Single 8" Fan
500 cfm
4.8 amps
8-1/4" W x 8" H x 1-3/8" D
Total Depth: 2-3/8"
Mounting: 6" x 6"

And the Fan that Broadfoot Racing has on their web site.

I have the three with the Combo oil cooler Rad that I bought from Chris White.

They work well and they keep the rad ice cold. I was having a cooling problem that turned out to be a flaw in the thermostats I tried. Chris White discovered the issue with the thermostat design. Three fans is overkill but I haven't had chance to pull the thermostat and fix it. Hot days in traffic it would get quite hot...aprox 240 instead of the 190 it was supposed to run at.

All the fans are light weight and blow serious volume of air compared to the stock setup

Howabout wiring the fan directly to the alternator?

Eventually I may be putting a GIANT Ford Taurus fan on my car (supposed to flow between 3-4000cfm) but it has a HUGE startup current (like 70 amps LOL) and was going to just to that...

The super powerful fan is the '98 Lincoln Mark VIII. Taurus is the same size (and easier to find.) I have a '96 Mark fan on my '69 Daytona 5.7 Hemi swap and it works great. To get around the high startup voltage use a standalone fan controller from SPAL or flex-a-lite which uses a soft-touch start and variable speed. It's like $85.

Generally less draw=less cooling...time for a Quest alternator.

For the OP if your voltage is dropping significantly then you likely have old ground wires and related problems. Lower current fans would just be masking it.

I haven't gone around and cleaned the grounds since last year. I'm thinking maybe I should do that again. Where do the fans ground too?

I am looking into getting a spal cooling fan, but i want make a frame instead of putting those long zip ties through the radiator. i am more incline to doing it since i have bigger pulleys and putting a smaller battery in the car

I had the same issue before when fan came on even the instrument panel lighting would flicker. Turned out to be the Grounds in my case, i also made new grounds both for the lights and fans.

What are the radiator size on our cars ? I could measure but afraid i am to far away from the car "Search gives nothing on the topic". I cant use the stock fan and frame due to a bigger radiator so i have to go with something more slim. I would like to know if it is possible to fit 2 12" fans or if i should go 10"

What grounds in specific did you clean up. I cleaned up all the ones inside the car a while ago as well as the battery ground. Any ideas would be helpful.

I am going to assume that Porsche Engineers know better than you about the volume and pressure the cooling fans need to be. Amps are proportional to CFM/pressure. Lower amps will give lower CFM and pressure.

Something else is wrong if the voltage drops too much.
