Post flowmaster muffler?

thinking of replacing the stock muffler on my 86 944t. any ideas if it will increase power in any way? also the shop told me that if i increase the exhaust to 3 in ches it will have some hp gains, is this true? will it do any damage to the car? also, i am having trouble passing smog, i did everything to fix it but it still didn't though the readings went down significantly, but not enough to pass. i ordered a catalytic converter from a salvage yard which i later found out that it was illegal to do this, yet he sold it to me.my car currently has 108,000 miles on it and the converter has not been changed at all, the one that was sold to me has 75,000 miles on it, so he said.

flow masters are such a rip off. You can just put up a bullet pipe. That would be much more effective. Turbo cars are very quiet. I started mine up when there was no exhasut on it at all and it was still quiet!

hey luke, i'm new to all this, so ,can u ellaborate more on the bullet pipe? what is it? who makes it? will it increase performance? is it legal? will alter the car's responsiveness on acceleration????? and more. i may sound abit ignorant on this and everything that deals with porsche, it's because i've been a tank mech. amd all this performance stuff is french to me, so i do appreciate all the inout, i'm willing to learn more about the car. thanks

A bullet pipe is a tube that has a slightly larger diameter than you exhaust (about a 1.5 ft long) and the inside of the tube has another pipe that is the diameter of your exhaust, expect it is perforated. It is abouta straight thru as you can get with out just going straight pipe. THey will knock 7 db's off your total exhasut note. Any reduction in back pressure on your turbo car will help your turbo to spool faster. Check out www.speedforceracing.com 's exhasut stuff.

Regarding your emissions problem...put in the *stock* tempature range spark plugs. This should drop you hydrocarbon emissions.

well, it started out as one bullet pipe where the cat was! But my parents were afraid the neighbors would complain. It wasn't really loud at all! nothing rattles, no real resonance. But for some reason you can hear the car better from a 1/8 mile away then you can from up close? It's weird. I think I'll take off the 2nd bullet , which is where a muffler would go, and have a supertrap 4in. tip welded in place. It sounds so much cooler with just one bullet pipe.

btw, I started the car up with test pipe or cat back, when they were working on her, and it still wasn't really that loud. These cars sound so great under an over pass with the top off!
and with two bullet pipes, it's straight thru enough with my 26/6 to spit fire out the tail pipe. ( a 4in rolled crome piece). I didn't know until some 5.0 ***** told me. I thought it was just a "pop"
