Car Back from the shop and APE Stage II's installed. But
I got my car back with a brand new FPR yesterday afternoon. I didn't go the adjustable route. My wrench recommended the FPR off of a 968. He said that it flows at higher pressure then the stock but costs the same. I couldn't justify the added cost of the adjustable FPR. As soon as I got home I installed my APE Stage II chips. Install was a no brainer and the car seems to have moderately more power then before.
Today while running around town the ! point light on the dash light up when I was riding the brakes to slow down after running the car up through the gears? It only came when I put my foot on the brake. And after 5-10 seconds it didn't do it at all. I know that the light comes on when the cars oil is low but what else causes it to come on? The oil had been topped off in the shop.
Any Guru's car to comment.
I also had the compression done while the FPR was being replaced and it was as follows 1=132, 2=138, 3=138, and 4=145. I thought that was pretty good for a 16 year old original engine with 160,000 on the clock.

I was also thinking of a 3.0 bar fpr from an s2/968(?) but have gotten mixed responses. There should have been another light on with the _!_ at the same time to tell what was up, oil, park brake, brake lining, etc, make it do it again.
Compression does look good, I believe they should all be w/in 15% of the highest number, correct? What would a newly rebuilt car do 150/145?
thanks,
Jason

Could it be the brake pad sensors that caused the idiot _!_ light to go on? It's an easy check - just take your wheels off and look at the sensors that are attached to the top-middle of your brake pads. If they're broken, I *think* that's the light that lights up on your dash.
good luck!

the s2 or 968 use a 3.8 bar FPR and not a 3 bar. it makes 3,3 bar on idle and 3.8 bar on WOT. Mine did 3,5 bar on idle and 4,05 bar on WOT
you need custom chips for that otherwisem it will be to rich.

"you need custom chips for that otherwisem it will be to rich."
Only rich under full-throttle/high-RPM when the computer is in open-loop mode though. Otherwise, with O2-sensor feedback, it will maintain the correct air-fuel ratio.

Well it an effort to purchase parts that would support future mods better then the stock part would have. Like I said earlier the car seems to pull harder then stock and it doesn't spew black smoke out of the tailpipe at WOT either.

When my brake-pads wore out, only the 'Brake Pad' light came on. The '!' symbol came on once when I was low on oil and the braking caused it to slosh to the front and drop oil pressure. The car promptly died (self-protection mechanism?)
Kool, did you check your oil afterwards?

My wrench said that it had been a quart low. But that he topped it off. But AI will check it when I get home. It only seems to happen while braking or turning at high rates of speed. I have never had the engine die.

Brake fluid and all fluides are topped off. Pads and wear sensors are AOK so what gives. I think that I am going to pull the chips out and see if that makes it quit.

Are 951s suppose to die when they are low on oil? Just curious. My brother-in-law's '87 consumed a lot of oil (about 1 qt / 300-400 miles of spirited driving) and on several occasions the "!" light came on (along with the oil light). The car never died though ... I never had a quart of oil in the car, so just had to baby it until I could get home.
I jinxed your car Mark ... that's what you get for making fun of my poor 951. =) J/k
